I feel the same way, half the time when I go up to the counter with a game and he pulls out a disc only, I just tell him to forget it. They shouldn't even take games in on trades from people who bring in disc only. I bought 2 games the other day, and it took a while to get those damn stickers off too. I guess I am anal just like some of you guys.

Im a straight dick head when I buy from GameStop. If they have multiple copies of the game I first find the case that is in the best shape, then I search for the one with the best manual. When I get to the counter, if the disk is not to my liking then I have them show everyone to me, till I find one in the best shape. I bet they hate my ass haha.

The last time I ever went to GameStop, the guy working got real pissed at me because I refused to buy a game as "new" that had been sitting on display with no shrink wrap. The case even had a tear in the outside sleeve. I argued with him for about ten minutes on how something isn't "new" if it's been opened and sitting on a shelf for who knows how long. He asked me why I cared so much since the disc had been in a paper sleeve protected the whole time.

This is by far GameStop's worse business practice. I know they need display copies for people to browse, but if it's the last one it should be sold as used. No shrink wrap? Not new. It's fucking insulting to have someone try and convince you otherwise.

Normally I didn't mind doing this for customers, and I would try to find the best one for them anyways, because I'm picky like that too.
But one time, I went through at least 30+ Gran Tourismo 3 discs for one guy (and some of them looked in perfect condition), and he didn't want any of them. Gran Tourismo 3 is also a $2 game. grrr...

Also, in regards to the incomplete games...I also only try to buy them complete, but it's understandable that some wouldn't be. For one, people steal the cases off the wall thinking they have a game inside. Second, if gamestop only took complete games in trade, a lot of people would get pissed that they can't trade in their games that they have no boxes for. So you have to cater to one set or the other.

i hope other people that have worked at game stores can hear where im coming from, but isnt it great when someone trades in a ton of games in terrible condition, and then when they go to buy games with the store credit, only buy them if they are in good condition? that always puzzles me

I had posted earlier about being picky bout the used games, and noticed before and after I posted seemed like lots of people were hating on gamestop. Just wanted to go on record, especially for you GS employees, that I DONT hate gamestop. Actually, I like going there. Always check into a store at least once a week, even just to look around. I understand how retail works...did it myself for a few years with a couple different companies. And I do understand sometimes the business practices and policies arent always the best, and that employees have to follow them to keep their jobs.
That being said, there still should never be a reason for employees to upset customers, but honestly, in all my dealings with gamestop over the years, I can probably count on one hand the amount of times I have had issues with employees, as most seem to be friendly, helpful, and even willing to strike up conversations regarding gaming in general, even when your not buying anything at the time.
Just wanted to put in my 2 cents .

There's no reason to buy a modern game without a perfect case and manual. There are lot of copies around and you can't damage the box and the manual unless you want to. Slight CD scratches are fine in my book but if they are big or it has craters instead of lines I pass them. Those give problems.

Around here GAME stores are quite common. They keep their used games well. They put a small label on the top of the box with the price. However ,for no reason, they put these stickers ON THE BOXART instead of putting it on the box plastic. My copy of EBA has damaged artwork on the spine because of that. They also use big round price tags when the games go low on value and if a game has them you can say bye bye to the boxart.

Seriously, why just the DS games? Use the friggin' plastic!

I HATE case stickers. I once bought a copy of Super Monkey Ball that had 6 stickers! That's just ridiculous. Also, on the Gamestop website, if you want to buy a game, they don't give you the option of buying it with the case or instructions! That's just wrong.

Yeah I would not buy a game online from Gamestop, but I do enjoy browsing through the stores. I usually buy lower priced items, especially when I factor in potential shipping costs of buying the games online or elsewhere. Since they price their games the same regardless of if they have a case or manual, I have been able to complete games I already own by getting the manuals or insert from Gamestop from employees that don't mind.

I think stickers are what really get me. Sure, you can replace some cases, but damn it's just annoying as hell. And when it comes to PSX games, it's not always that easy getting replacement cases for double sized cases. I just can't believe so many stores throw on huge stickers on the cases, it gets worse when you buy from a store that has a game with multiple stickers on it from other stores. Ugly.

I saw on Kotaku recently, Gamestop could be getting in huge trouble because of this practice. I hope something happens, because they suck. I pretty much stopped buying from them a few years ago.
