had no idea it was the same developer. Wow. Rise Of The Dragon always looked cool too. Sort of a Snatcher/Blade Runner/cyberpunk thing. Very different from Willy Beamish' aesthetic. Nice.

Yeah, with Willy Beamish, you need to play it on PC. One of the final puzzles is a timed puzzle that is almost impossible when using the D-Pad to push buttons in the correct order.Exhuminator wrote:Yeah I wouldn't recommend the Sega CD version. The color palette was neutered, and the loading times are really bad. The MS-DOS PC version is where it's at. If you enjoy it, check out Dynamix's other great adventure they made with an earlier version of Willy Beamish's engine; Rise of the Dragon. I personally like Rise of the Dragon better because of its adult themes and cyberpunk atmosphere. Although once again, I would not recommend the Sega CD version of that one either.
Both Rise of the Dragon and Willy Beamish are fun, albeit really strange. Rise of the Dragon features a combat system that pops up from time to time and is really really weird.
The problem with both games is that there are time limits and the puzzles can be arbitrary, but the animation, art style and world for both are quite fun!

I'm a little confused here dude.noiseredux wrote:so I'm kind of thinking...
Bonk's Adventure
Call Of Duty
Diablo
Dragon Quest
Earthworm Jim
The Great Giana Sisters
King Of Fighters 2002
Loom
Outrun Coast 2 Coast
Tomb Raider Legend
I assumed you had already played Jim and disliked it.noiseredux wrote:Question for those playing Earthworm Jim: Do you f'ing hate it and wish you hadn't put it on your list?

no I was asking because I thought I had seen complaints about how difficult it was and the floatiness of the jumping, etc so I wasn't sure if I should keep it on my list or not. Anyway, looks like I'm cutting it in favor of something I already own in the interest of not spending $.

Yep. Dynamix made one other adventure game that utilizes the engine that Rise of the Dragon and Willy Beamish used as well:noiseredux wrote:had no idea it was the same developer

So far, I am enjoying Shining Force II, the next game on my list. I am playing it on "normal" difficulty, however, and it is really, really easy. The battles, while fun, do not seem to require a tremendous amount of strategy. (In other words, it isn't Nectaris: Military Madness.) I am sure the difficulty picks up towards the end - right? - and since I have never played a SRPG before, I am fine taking it a bit easy. (If I enjoy the game, I will turn up the difficulty the next time I play it or another SRPG.)
Re: Summer Games Challenge 2015
Shining Force II is definitely on the easy end of the scale, though the difficulty goes up once the computer gets magic users. Additionally, many of the later maps like to do things with choke points and flying units that can make it hard to keep your squishier units protected.

Re: Summer Games Challenge 2015
So I'm hearing that grinding is a bad idea in FF8 because the enemies scale to your level and are actually harder the high level you are.
I hope that will minimize grinding a bit. It takes so long drawing magic I don't want to have to worry about gaining experience too.
Is there a faster way to get magic then using draw on every new enemy for 15 minutes or more?

Re: Summer Games Challenge 2015
It's your choice. Near the end of the game, there is an island that has enemies way up there in level if you choose to grind. I went for max level when I played through it and still managed to easily beat the snot out of the final boss by abusing the playing cards. In the meantime...no, you're stuck with drawing the hard way.alienjesus wrote:So I'm hearing that grinding is a bad idea in FF8 because the enemies scale to your level and are actually harder the high level you are.

The amount you draw is based on your stats, so with a high magic (I think) stat you will draw a ton and so it takes very little time to get something new.alienjesus wrote:Is there a faster way to get magic then using draw on every new enemy for 15 minutes or more?
But at the beginning of the game, the best way to get magic is to use Card Mod and the Item Mod (or whatever it was called).
