I have AvP Gold edition, which came out in 1998 I think. Looks like a different game.
ah! Here's the confusion...

You are playing Aliens Versus Predator from 1998.

I'm playing Aliens Vs. Predator from 2010.

Two totally different games! Which is why I was like "hmm, I thought this game came out a lot earlier than it did."

Well, either way I'm enjoying this one, haha. I'll get to the 90's one at some point as well. :)

I liked the new AvP well enough - it is much better than Colonial Marines, I think, but not as good as PC games AvP or AvP2 from the turn of the century. Glad you are enjoying it.

nice. Ironically, it DID get a sequel didn't it? Or was there a sequel to the 90's AVP? So confusing haha.

But yeah, I'll def get the 90's one too. I checked and GMG has that one for $5 as well.

The 2010 game, AFAIK, hasn't seen a direct sequel of any kind.

Well I'll be an monkey's Uncle. I had no clue there was a Versus and a Vs.

Alien Versus Predator may not impress many today, but I still love it. It really captures the feeling of being one of the characters. As a Marine, you're usually scared shitless, as a Predator you feel nearly invincible, and as an Alien you're a stealthy killer.

Alien Versus Predator 2 improved on everything (I remember playing multiplayer on GameSpy for hours every night) but I prefer the stripped version that is AvP Gold.

noiseredux wrote:@Ack, you give a lot of credit to Sam Raimi for The Grudge? Do you know what specific input he had? Generally when I see "Produced by" in film credits I just read that as "Gave us money."
Yeah, you're right. For some reason I thought Raimi had directed. But it was the original Ju-On director, so if anything, he had a chance to better refine things.

AvP Gold still impresses me to this day, because no game has ever managed to capture the speed and style I felt as an Alien. Fastbilly, a bunch of friends, and I used to play a lot, and the Alien players (self included) got to the point where we would always run and always spiral our way through tunnels to throw off the Marines players. At the start of every match, the Alien players would run through and tailspike all of the lights out so the level was completely dark. We even discovered that two aliens could leap at each other and climb their bodies into the air like they were walls. We used this to get up large shafts quickly.

We learned to do all of this simply to survive. After all, Fastbilly's Predator skills were sick. I once saw him throw the disc around a corner and take out a squad of Marines. And the Marines players learned to use heavy weapons effectively. Our friend Ixcila would set up in a corner with a minigun and just hose anything that moved. And then there was Scorpion and his damned grenade launcher.

God, I miss AvP Gold.
