Re: Summer Games Challenge 2015
No -- it was a great time, and I'm glad I finally got to it. Like CFFJR, I too am feeling the urge to keep playing it even though it's off my list.noiseredux wrote:Question for those playing Earthworm Jim: Do you f'ing hate it and wish you hadn't put it on your list?
My only problem was that there are a few mechanics that aren't fully explained in the manual and which I found a little counter-intuitive, but once you get those figured out the confidence and mastery of Jim's controls comes quickly.
There's also a way to really rack up the continues, which is great once you get the hang of it.
And yes, the cartoon! It holds up so well for adults. Highly recommended. As is Earthworm Jim 2, which is a smoother and slightly more twisted experience.

I look forward to when you Earthworm Jim fans get to playing ClayFighter 63 1/3...

Spent an hour or so playing FFVIII. Sure have drawn a lot of spells. There must be a quicker way...

Agreed. It seems to appeal mostly to the stat-hounds. People who enjoy tinkering with the algorithms and whatnot. People like Popo.Sarge wrote:I mean, honestly, I see the appeal of FFV. It's just not built to appeal to me.
It's a good game, but I vastly prefer IV and VI.

I dunno. I think the joy of FFV is that it's always possible to make it work. You can go as OP as you want and break the game apart or restrict yourself in ridiculous ways and still makeit through with the right plan of attack. That's why 4 job fiesta is a thing.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Agreed. It seems to appeal mostly to the stat-hounds. People who enjoy tinkering with the algorithms and whatnot. Cheapest I can find EWJ is $10 on GOG so I might swap that one out for something... not sure what yet.
Might go back to my early thought of Willy Beamish, as I own that one. And I do want to play it. I'm really trying to make it a list of 10 games that I'll be motivated to stick with.

Willy Beamish is a really cool game, with a walkthrough in tow. The time limit causes issues, and knowing what to do when to do it is obfuscated to say the least. The game has a really cool story and characters, amazing animation (for its time), and very detailed backgrounds. I loved it as a kid, but I had to call the Sierra hint line a few times.

was a game I always wanted on Sega CD and was so excited to find the PC version at a thrift shop for $2 recently.

Yeah I wouldn't recommend the Sega CD version. The color palette was neutered, and the loading times are really bad. The MS-DOS PC version is where it's at. If you enjoy it, check out Dynamix's other great adventure they made with an earlier version of Willy Beamish's engine; Rise of the Dragon. I personally like Rise of the Dragon better because of its adult themes and cyberpunk atmosphere. Although once again, I would not recommend the Sega CD version of that one either.
