I would hope it's only a small fraction of the game. And I will admit that just watching it gave me a feeling of "oh shit, how will I get out of this alive", and any game that can give me a visceral experience like that is alright in my book. If you've lived through that sort of thing though, I'm suprised you would want to play through it in a game. It looks terrifying, bordering on hopeless.

darthmunky wrote:How would it alienate anyone? I think the Wii motion controls and this new controller would alienate people more than classic controllers would... And cartridges actually make more sense, they can hold TBs of space now and they are super small and compact, they cant get scratched, and loading times would be not as long. All they would need to do is build some way of blocking people from copying games and pirating. its very possible.

Going back to a snes/playstation styled controller over the Wiimote would mean that alot of people who bought the Wii because it was easy to use would not buy it. For example, my older brother who loves his NES very dearly, bought a Wii because he and his wife and oldest daughter could play games together. His wife, who hasnt gamed since she had her 2600, loves playing Wii Sports, Mario Kart, and Boom Blox. She would never buy into using a standard controller so she would not buy a Wii U if it went the way you were stating.

What??? So, you're saying Wii and Wii U would be easier to use than a normal controller??? No, it's quite the opposite. That was my point. snes style controllers are much easier to use, most people are better with standard controllers than wii remotes my friend.

Remember how the original PSP was once used in conjunction with the PS3 as a "rear view mirror" of sorts on a racing game (can't recall which one)?

Well.. what's stopping Sony from somehow integrating that same technology into the NGP/Vita and using that handheld with the PS3 in a similar way to how this new "Wii U" controller is looking being used - like using your handheld controller as a fps scope and whatnot?

Sony still has time to work on the tech before release I bet. :?:

They are doing that actually and have demonstrated it as well. For example, the game Ruin can literally be paused on the Vita and then resumed on the PS3 instantly. What doesn't remain clear, however, is if you need to purchase two copies of the same game. However, I think you are right and Sony will work very hard to essentially make Vita do similar things as the Wii-U controller.

Hell, this isn't an entirely new concept since the PSP sort-of could do it with remote play.

Yep, I have no doubt that we will see lots of interconnectivity and cross play between the PS3 and Vita. And who says you will need to buy two different games all of the time? What's to stop a developer from releasing a PS3 game with a DLC Vita counterpart included for free? Another huge benefit is that the Vita is a console on its own. It isn't tethered to the PS3 as the WiiU's controller appears to be. I can take the Vita with me and it acts independently. I think that is where the market is headed. Did anyone see Apple's keynote yesterday? After the release of iOS 5 and OS X Lion, Apple mobile devices should be completely independent of personal computers.

The only benefit I see from forcing the WiiU's tablet as a system dependent controller (again, this is what it appears to be) is that it will force developers to make use of it more often. With the Vita, developers can "take it or leave it". With the WiiU's controller, it's there all the time with every console. Developers can more consistently design concepts around it. It worked with the Wii and motion control. I think it's going to come down to price for the WiiU.

Thankfully someone here is happy about it. I'm not the only one here.

Seriously, why so negative? The name sucks, sure, but why exactly is this SUCH a bad thing besides the lack of specs. Am I just a dolt? Because I'm not getting the negativity here.

I'm excited for it. Looks a lot cooler than Wii or GC.

also there is a reason why there is a USB port on the Wii U controller... arcade stick, classic controllers, etc.

I 100% disagree, I think a snes controller is easier to use for someone whos never played a game than the wii mote and motion controls... snes is much simpler.
