And lo, unto the wastes of Sosaria did ride a fearless dwarf: Ack, deft of phazor and vile of interpersonal relationships. With kings and emperors, Ack did meet. And through them, he gained many titles: the Mighty, the Strong, the Brave, He-Who-Slew-The-Lich, He-Who-Went-Under-The-Mountain, the Balron-Slayer, and even He-Who-Spits-When-He-Talks. Ack did face the evils of the Gelatinous Cube and the Carrion Crawler, but he also faced even greater difficulties which bore him great titles such as The Accidentally Insulting, He-Who-Called-The-Shopkeeper's-Wife-Fat, and The One Who Farts In Public. But though he lacks Charisma, he makes up for it in sheer determination, never mind the fact that he smells of onions and stale beer, and his shirt has perpetual pit stains. Plus, he's kind of a jerk.

But now does Ack face his greatest challenge. Now, Ack must become a Space Ace, and he has already earned the title He-Who-Wonders-How-In-The-Hell-He-Is-Supposed-To-Fly-This-Stupid-Thing, The Fuel Runner-Outer, and Ack "Just Shot A Starship Full Of Nuns And Orphans" the Dwarf.

I played a bit, finished the four quests for the gems, maxed out my strength(meaning all stats except Charisma are at 99. Charisma is at 11), got the best equipment, and bought myself a shuttle. I also am now level 10. So it's time to become a Space Ace! Only trouble is, I have no idea what I am doing. Does Hyperspace warp me one map square over? How do I go back? And why does the targeting system have to suck so much? What the hell am I even doing up here, flying a sardine can in outer space? Stupid princesses and their stupid love for stupid fly boys. I'm a dwarf, I belong digging through a pile of dirt!

Yeah, the space ace portion sucks. I'd recommend you just read a full plan of what to do because you'll still earn accomplishment through the execution. It was definitely part of a "see what sticks" thing being done by Garriot. You'll see a similar kind of tossing random shit out there in Ultima II, though it gets reigned in by Ultima III.

Makes sense, as this does feel pretty pulled out of his ass. I've liked the game up to this, but...this is a pretty big wall for me.

Well, basic controls I have down:

V: changes view, but only accessible after I kill all enemies in an area.
H: Hyperspace, but I am not sure how far I go, how direction effects it, etc.
F: Fire the lasers!
I: Brings up a map, though I'm unsure of how to navigate it.

...and that is it I think. I know I have to restock fuel, and must be in the shuttle to return to Earth. I also don't think I can save in space, but that's ok. I don't want to save during a screw up. I pretty much figure I just need to figure out Hyperspace warping and then jump to nearby places only to fight until I get the title.

Yes, I hate it. Kinda brings the whole game down a few notches.

I'm not too keen on Ultima II either, to be honest. Exodus is where shit gets real.

Ultima II is a weird one that gets weirder if you have the particular DOS release that has all the late-game maps screwed up. The game was originally on two floppies that had map data, and the maps had the same reference ids on each disk. Then when the DOS release came out it was on a single disk which meant that all the second disk maps got overwritten because the port was an utter slapdash job. Fortunately everything that got overwritten was completely worthless anyways, so the game is still 100% beatable.

Yeah I remember reading about that back when I had the Ultima Collection. I was paranoid about the game being unbeatable so I skipped it initially, finally playing it years and years later.

Chrono - still trying to get through heckran cave(admittedly I've been worn out and my chair for that has become a coat/clothes holder.....I'm going to clean it of and attempt it again once I find the remote to turn down the volume

FF1 - *sigh* just to get everyone off my back....amazing for it's time but this one is just not my cup of tea....running the psp version even if the graphics are way too close to the horrid mobile graphics yuck....gba just looks better but I don't feel like paying more than 5-7 for cart...

Judging by YouTube longplays and the like it appears as if Bonk's Adventure is gonna take me 90-100 minutes or so. This is just long enough to have me wishing it had some sort of save or password system. Guess I'll have to marathon it on a Sunday evening or something.
