hm
i'll chime in
drugs are bad mmkay ?
and by drugs i mean big pharma
there is a big difference between drug use and drug abuse
most people legally abuse drugs or become "hooked" on drugs... that are acquired from the most educated of drug dealers ... doctor's !
street drugs are not really as bad, nor addicting as prescribed drugs
and on alcohol
it's fun in moderation... at least for me
i like to drink quality beers
and most of them tend to fill me up before i can get too sloppy
i have a little belly n all... so i can't fit too much in, especially if i ate dinner or lunch with my beer
oh ps
i do not endorse nor do i unendorse anyone doing anything i may have talked about

this post is WAYYY off topic.
Drugs can be a horrible thing. Make your decisions based on facts and research for yourself. Don't listen to message boards!

If I were stupid, I wouldn't be doing molecular biology for a living. And for the record, the only drug I'm addicted to is caffeine. I can and do take breaks from the herb once in a while, but it's something I enjoy, so why deprive myself? Caffeine on the other hand, I haven't missed a day since HS, and the mere thought of it sends chills down my spine.
Maybe your problem is that you're only talking to drug addicts, who are looking to blame the failures in their life on something. Drugs are an easy target. There are plenty of successful people who use drugs, they just hide because it's dangerous for a person to come out as a drug user these days. For instance, it's well known that Carl Sagan smoked pot. Richard Feynman took LSD. In fact, Kary Mullis, has said that LSD helped him invent PCR, for which he won the Nobel Prize.
So yeah, stupid people take drugs and do stupid things. Smart people also take drugs, and do smart things. It's not the drugs that are the problem. It's what you do with them that determines whether they're harmful or helpful.
You need to understand that you have been lied to by your government. They have created this prejudice in your mind, in order to increase their own power. The assumption that all drug users are sick is no more valid than assuming that every homosexual is sick, or every black man is a criminal. It's nothing more than gross bigotry, and I urge you to open your mind and learn.
Attitudes like yours lead to persecution of people like me. I hope you'll reconsider.

actually we don't have those stereotypes over here (specially the black one). I'm sorry but you sound more and more like an addicted man who can't understand the truth. You know I'm fat. I eat a lot. But at least I aknowledge it's bad for me and I should stop it. And really the way you say someone is smart shows how much you lack in life experience. For me a smart person is someone who can balance all aspects in his life not someone with a good job and a fucked up life. And if you were smart you wouldn't do drugs. That succesfull people do drugs doesn't say shit. More people don't do them you know. AND how the fuck does making people KNOW that drugs are bad make a goverment stronger? I don't know what they are telling you over there (then again Palin is against abortions and in favor of guns and people support her. I guess you are being fed some crap after all) but I think any nation wants it's citizens too be healthy. And stop comparing it to other addictive things that's how a child behaves ("yeah I might have done that but my brother lied about his test exams punish him instead mom")

Ok, ok, I think this has all gone on long enough. Everybody play nice, the arguments are starting to lean towards a political battle that I don't want to see go down, especially considering it'll likely start crossing international lines. There are more factors getting involved here than some of us realize, and some peoples comments may be hitting closer to home than they think.
And as a general rule...DON'T bring up the US election. Everybody here would probably be shocked and horrified to see what everybody else here thinks about governments, especially considering how many of us aren't from America. If you want a political talk, private messages between folks will do, but do not bring it into the forums, we don't want everybody getting all pissed off with each other. That's Mozgus' job.
And no harassment through PMs, either.

Re: alcohol/drug stance
Believe what you want to believe, no skin off my nose. No hard feelings either, just trying to do a little cultural outreach as it were.
Just to be clear, I'm not trying to say anyone here should do drugs. Or that any drugs are harmless. Clearly that would be ridiculous. What I am saying is that there are both good sides and bad sides, and the risks are managable if done responsibly. I know that drugs have enriched my life, and I'm comfortable with my decision to use them. I'm glad that you are comfortable with your decision as well. I hope that you'd be courteous enough to say the same to me.
I'm out of town for the weekend, so have a good one.

I get mentioned a lot around here.
Are you saying my job is to rile people up against each other? Or is it against me? Or is my job to....be pissed at myself? I'm confused. What are you saying?
Oh and Bush sucks. McCain sucks. Obama sucks. That'll get you guys started.
