I've already posted a couple in this thread. Planescape: Torment stands out in particular as head and shoulders above most other RPGs, story-wise, as does the (core) Baldur's Gate series.

It's probably because most Western RPGs are PC only, and the site tends to attract more console retro gaming.Funk, E wrote:Western RPGs get a bum rap on this forum.

What didn't you like?
Re: What rpg has the best story?
my personal favourite has always been final fantasy 4. Strange that this was the first rpg I ever played.

super mario rpg
simple, with digestible twists
final fantasy tactics
im pretty through 'rough' translation work (ps one) there was a decent story
shenmue
(not really an rpg) had all the charm of an 80's typical revenge based action movie while cutting down on the corniness and a dash of fantasy
lunar silver star story
although the story is far from being unique... but i personally think its the best among classic, routine rpg stories

The best storyline I've come across in a game would be the ones in Silent Hill 1 & 2. As far as RPGs, I like Phantasy Star II & IV, Final Fantasy 6, 7 and 10, Breath of Fire II, Dragon Warrior 7, Suikoden 1, 2, and 3... but none of them are as good as those first two Silent Hill games.
I have a ton of games listed at my store's site: Super Smash Video Games

I see no love for Fallout, Arcanum, The Elder Scrolls, Nox, or any others, eh? I actually kinda liked Baldur's Gate, though, it was pretty simple and it let me play a Gnomish pimp.
