I have a somewhat humorous yet also somewhat frightening Saturn modding story.
I ordered the chip and as I'm completely inept at anything mechanical I employed the help of my father in law who seems to be capable of anything. He brought out the soldering iron and got to work, burning himself at one point, which is where I became less amused and more frightened that he might finally explode in a rage and disown me for my juvenile hobby.
In the end it was a success though, and I think he gleaned some joy from hearing that it worked without a hitch.

Re: Who All Has A modded Saturn?
I modded my Saturn like 7 months ago and it was one of the best gaming decisions I have ever made as it is has introduced me to some of the best games I have ever played.
Re: Who All Has A modded Saturn?
I would have loved to mod my own Saturn, but sadly like a lot of people soldering irons scare the crap out of me. I had a friend who lives a ways away from me who recently did one, and just got it in the mail today! Now I need to buy some CD-Rs thanks to Underground Gamer...

I think I do .... XD
Re: Who All Has A modded Saturn?
I'd love to own one, despite not being able to find many games for the Japanese Saturn I want. Anyone willing to sell one to me? I don't really want to hassle of installing one myself 'cause I'm a lazy git.

I'm thinking of getting a modchip so I can back up my games. I'm really anal about trying not to scratch my discs.
I'm just not sure since I have no soldering experience and knowledge. Is this procedure easy enough for a total beginner?

Re: Who All Has A modded Saturn?
Well interesting story mine...
Ive always wanted to play nights I remember in the 90s I had a thing going for comic books. The only ones I read was Iron man from heroes reborn from the onslaught story and Leonard nimoys primortal. I remember seeing ads about Nights and I was like uuuuu drooling all over it. But didn't had the money to buy a saturn. The comics I remember I washed the car of the guy who own the comic book store and he gave me the comics when they came out.
Then like 1 or 2 years ago (I don't remember) I used to see racketboy post about sega and used to be a lurker on sega xtreme and saw that he was selling modchips. What I did was buy one real fast and bought miself a saturn with nights. But I didn't knew the things about the different models (didn't read rackets warnings
) So me and bro (hes older than me) told what the hell lets give it a try but he read the method for the oval button and said shit!!!!!!!! this is gonna be hard!!!!!!!!!. So I sticked with the saturn using the swap trick for some time but I didnt had any luck playing guardian heroes. That was one of the game my bro was interested.
I got tired of not playing some games so I decided to sell the saturn and get the round one. And I did we install the modchip with the ab method and voila we finished guardian heroes that day.
And I'm happy ever since with it.
Thanks racketboy for helping me fulfill one of my ambitions since a kid owning a saturn and playing guardian heroes with my bro. Thanks to your modchip.

Re: Who All Has A modded Saturn?
Well I got a Model 2 Saturn off Craigslist today. It has the rounded buttons and everything. When doing the A+B method, all you do is create a solder bridge between the A and B points on the modchip correct? And then the power wire you can either solder into the correct slot or just put it in there and get it stuck.
I plan on ordering a chip soon since the swap disc method I couldn't get to work and I don't want to ruin my Saturn.

Re: Who All Has A modded Saturn?
Thanks for the fast service to the EU racketboy,I installed the mod the other day on my model 2 64 pin and it works very well when I first tried it with pal back up and store bought pal game all was ok, then I tried it with a usa back up and from that point on i now have to boot to cd screen open lid close it and its ok??? once it went back to normal but i like a idiot put back in a jap back up and sure enough i have to open the door and close it again to boot any thing if i ever get it back to "normal" again ill make sure NOT to insert a diffrent region iso again so my question is.....is it normal for the mod to act like this?? and to all the ppl worried about getting/doing the mod just do it you wont be sorry
