I beat it myself about three or four years ago with both Rue and Mint. I thought it was a fun little action-RPG, but definitely a little rough around the edges (especially the platforming). The plot's above average, especially Mint's path as there was a lot of humor in it. Cute graphics and uplifting atmosphere. But really it's a 7/10 kinda game for me though, I definitely wouldn't put it in my "best JRPGs" ever category. There are better action-RPGs on the PS1 IMO. I enjoyed Dragon Valor more than this one for instance.Ack wrote:I'm curious to hear why you guys think so highly of it.

Re: what are the best jrpgs
This thread needs more Suikoden love.
So for me:
FFVI, V, IX, VII, XII
Suikoden I, II, III
Chrono Trigger
Xenogears
Phantasy Star IV
Secret of Mana
If I count strategy/tactics games
Ogre Battle and Tactics games
Shining Force 1, 2, 3
FFT
Fire Emblem series

Yes I will reply in English.Exhuminator wrote:Can you name any in English?BoneSnapDeez wrote:Illusion City is okay. There are other vastly superior Micro Cabin JRPGs though.
Guardian War (strategy RPG) and Lucienne's Quest (console-style JRPG) are both excellent JRPGs for the 3DO. Beware though, the price of Lucienne's Quest is frightening. I don't yet own it, and if I ever do it'll be perhaps the most expensive game in my collection after PDS. It was also released on the Saturn, but (shocker!) only in Japan.
Micro Cabin's flagship series is Xak. These are Ys-y action-RPGs that originated on home computers. None were released in the US, but fan translations exist for some of the MSX and PC Engine CD installments.
Oh and I LOVE Threads of Fate. Cute, short, streamlined action-RPG from an era where most RPGs were anything but. Anyone who enjoyed the art style and mechanics of that game should check out Gurumin.

Re: what are the best jrpgs
For best, I would say Final Fantasy VI.
For favorite, I would say Final Fantasy X.
I think there is a distinction between the two.
However, there are way too many to list all of them. Some others I would mention are: Dragon Warrior II, Final Fantasy, Breath of Fire I & II, Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, Final Fantasy IV, Lufia II(!!), Secret of Mana, Paper Mario, Chrono Cross, Final Fantasy VII, VIII & IX, Final Fantasy Tactics, Grandia 1 & 2, Lunar 1 & 2, Rhapsody, Saiyuki, Suikoden I - V, Tactics Ogre, Valkyrie Profile 1 & 2, Vandal Hearts, Atelier Iris 1 & 2, Disgaea 1 & 2, Dragon Quest VIII, Final Fantasy X-2 & XII,

Re: what are the best jrpgs
Rhapsody? Really?
Re: what are the best jrpgs
Dude. Seriously, how can you say no to this?!
Re: what are the best jrpgs
I always loved the characters in this series, and how each had unique skills that would be required during your quest. But I can understand why many don't love it - the slow pace and some poor design choices could be frustrating.Markies wrote:... Breath of Fire I & II, ...
It would be on my personal favorites list even though it doesn't make my "best" list. Nice to see someone mention the series though.

I watched that for way longer than I should have.Sarge wrote:Dude. Seriously, how can you say no to this?!

... I want to play Rhapsody now. Is it on PSN?Ack wrote:I watched that for way longer than I should have.Sarge wrote:Dude. Seriously, how can you say no to this?!
Great RPG? Not sure. Hilarious? Sure looks that way, and I've played games that were much less entertaining for a much longer amount of time.

Just don't play the DS version. It's a mess and it doesn't include the English song vocals.
PLAY KING'S FIELD.
