You could go my route and say goodbye to retro games. I decided to focus more on my ps3 now and xbox. For retro hunger i might pick up a genesis since the games are still cheap.
I got to retro gaming because it was cheap... and the games, in my country, were really affordable just a few years back and now they are asking 20+$ for single copies of N64 games.
You guys have stuff like goodwill... and that sounds really awesome.

Goodwill is only decent if you know which ones to go to...it's just a big chain of thrift stores like salvation army(which I'm really half tempted to find the closest salvation army since I've heard of some people finding stuff there).

Sometimes thrift stores aren't such a bargain. We have an "American Thrift Store." It's a sort of chain. Anyway, most of their stuff is very cheap. Except the video games! They know too much about those to let them go for cheap. They keep it all behind the counter in glass cases. They have a regular PSX, the big grey one, for $25. It's untested and no cables. When I saw it I thought, "Even the thrift stores are in the know now!"darsparx wrote:Goodwill is only decent if you know which ones to go to...it's just a big chain of thrift stores like salvation army(which I'm really half tempted to find the closest salvation army since I've heard of some people finding stuff there).
They have escaped into the mansion where they thought it was safe, yet.
Re: Disturbing prices on N64 games
Well that's the thing thrift stores shouldn't be your only method, there's ebay and amazon and let's not forget the ever popular flea market. I've seen tons of people score so many games just by using the flea market and pawn shop approach. But even pawn shops are getting in the know as well. You just have to be patient and look everywhere you can. Never know you might find a decent gem of a game if you wait long enough. Which hopefully you have more patience than I dojvalentine98 wrote:Sometimes thrift stores aren't such a bargain. We have an "American Thrift Store." It's a sort of chain. Yeah, I've got all the above responsibilities as well, plus a daughter. I fit hunting in because I like it, but I digress. It's cool man. To each their own.

I'll agree with you there, you just have to be willing to walk on a deal or see if they may come down(which I haven't worked up the nerve to do since on some series the price seems right like the metroid fusion I bought a few weeks ago)jvalentine98 wrote:Sometimes thrift stores aren't such a bargain. Few months ago I flipped copies of Super Smash Bros. and Majora's Mask bought for $2 each for $50 and $40 respectively. Thanks N64 price bubble!
Re: Disturbing prices on N64 games
N64 really isn't all that pricey unless your looking at party titles or a few specific games. A good example of this other than Smash is Mario Kart. Everyone knows Mario Kart and for people like me in there 20's is now a popular drinking game at parties. There isn't a shortage of Mario Kart carts laying around but it's in insanely high demand right now.
If you look at Diddy Kong Racing, a game I personally like much more than Mario Kart it is sitting at a nice comfortable 10 bucks on the high end.
Conkers is really one of the few outliers because it's a mix of perfect storm elements (late release, popular developer, M rating on a Nintendo console, actually a good game, ect) but even considering that really the price isn't terrible when you think it's the most expensive thing you can really get on the console.

Re: Disturbing prices on N64 games
I guess the argument could be made that they are still cheaper than when they were released. N64 games were VERY pricey back in the day and adjusting for inflation, they are actually still bargains. However, I'd definitely say it may be worth paying attention to deals/prices now before the it keeps going up.
Luckily, the N64 has a relatively small library and it's even smaller when you cut out all of the sports games, which makes up about 25% of the library. It's a pretty easy console to collect for.
