So.....1 last special, with a regeneration and 2 episodes into the new Doctor, what are your thoughts?

I have to say as someone used to younger doctors Capaldi is going to take a bit to get used to. I did like his acting though.

And of course the Christmas special was amazing. A muuuuuuuuuuuuch better way to say goodbye to a doctor. Unlike Davis who treated regeneration as death to make the fan base consider the changing of doctors a bad thing, here it was natural and the farewell speech by the doctor was really good and emotional (points++ for the
Amy cameo
)

I really like Capaldi as the Doctor so far. I say you have to give the new actor a few episodes to get use to the character, but he has taken it to be so alien it is just a delight to watch. I did not like the concept of the second episode, since it goes against most of what was said about that race in the past, but it was a very fun episode regardless.

I've only seen 1 season of Dr Who and that was way back in 2005 when this guy was the doctor: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001172/?ref_=tt_cl_t13

I enjoyed it a lot, I remember that. Then they changed doctors and I didn't enjoy it as much.

I have only watched classic Doctor Who episodes. (I most recently completed The Deadly Assassin and The Tomb of the Cybermen. The Deadly Assassin was great, but The Tomb of the Cybermen was incredible.) I also have this Dalek decal on my car.

After I work my way through the best of the classic serials, then I may start in with the new series. I am not sure I will like it as much without all the cheese, however.

I didn't say I won't give him a chance. I was "devastated" when they changed from 10th to 11th only to have Mat Smith become my favorite doctor :P. I just said that it's new for me to have an old guy in the role. I'm pretty sure classic who fans felt the same way about all the young doctors  . It's not bad, just will take a bit getting used to.

I also did like all the scenes with the women who flirted with the doctor. They could be pretty funny :).

Try watching the 5th series too, it changes to another doctor. Maybe it was just David Tenant who wasn't your cup of tea?

So did anyone watch the latest episode?

It was really refreshing for me

for once the Doctor isn't facing the destruction of the world, or hell not even a mortal danger, he's investigating a mystery.

One of the best episodes Moffat has written in some time which reminded me why I loved his writing so much in the first place.

and that twist at the ending...damn that's awesome....though this makes Clara a companion who's been with the doctor in a lot of "life defining" moments, and I can't say I appreciate that since I still prefer Amy....but at least she's better than all the RTD era companions, so I'll let it pass.

What?! You're smoking crack, fella. Rose is still the best modern era companion.

I don't want to get into a nerd fight, but:

Rose who: I don't remember ever doing something to help
Rose who: abandons her boyfriend to run away with a stranger
Rose who: gets mad when her boyfriend doesn't understand
Rose who: ....well, is kind of stupid really. Though that's mostly a fault of the actress.
Rose who: gets a Doctor clone for a boyfriend....ok this is not about the character, this is just me making fun of how stupid that entire scenario was

To be honest I just didn't like any of the companions from the RTD era, except the American guy ( captain Jack lastname I don't remember) who was pretty cool :).

Why does the Doctor not have more male companions? Rory was also really fun&funny.

Not going to lie, what i have watched of that era of who, I kinda liked Rose. Though imo Donna, was a little better...

Though I've got admit I'm glad that hulu has the old stuff now, and a lot more than netflix has ever had especially what with them being able to retrieve some of the old episodes now(thanks to them bouncing back from space). I mean i know people aren't a big fan of the grandaughter of the doctor but Unearthly child is a great arc for it's time :)

How much have you watched from the new show? To be honest I haven't watched anything from classic who, and since I barely made it through the first 4 seasons of new who (it took me a year in which I had a LOT of free time, while it took me a month for seasons 5 and 6) I don't see myself ever getting down to watching any of the classic episodes. At least I enjoy reading wiki articles about them and plot synopsis videos on youtube.
