little kids easily broke it by bending the screen to far the wrong way. Parents will see this as a cheaper more durable option for there young kids. now that I think about this its a pretty decent idea.
More durable? Isn't the screen more likely to scratch if you can't flip it? If a kid is going to just bend it the wrong way, then he's going to do anything to break it regardless.
Kids have cell phones more expensive than a 3DS, and the price difference between this and the 3D one isn't even a full priced retail game difference (don't get why the OP said it was nearly half price, 130 is not near half the price of 170). I think people here are blowing the whole "it is for young kids so it's allowed to have stupid features" thing, I dont even know what a young kid is in that context.
The idea is decent, but it's really not that much cheaper at all and it has a pretty crappy design from the looks of it.

It is a 35% price drop in comparison to the 3DS XL. $70 is significantly cheaper. Even $40 difference from the normal 3DS is still pretty good.

I would hope so but highly doubt it.
Also can't wait to hear about confused parents that don't know what games work on the 3DS. They will logically think that 3DS games won't work on the 2DS. I mean. It only makes sense.
I think it looks neat. I want one for my four year old daughter and one for myself as a curiosity. I never used the 3d on mine anyway as it irritated me.
I don't think it looks all that atrocious. I am pretty much indifferent to how it looks, I don't play handhelds to make a fashion statement. I can see myself going for this model simply because it's cheaper and I don't have any interest in the 3D feature. I would just play the few games I have interest in and probably sell it after that. I'll be interested in hearing if there are any other differences of note, ie region locking differences (although I highly doubt it to say the least).
