Why wont it happen?

I think Sony will continue the PS2Classics line on the PS4 platform, but the PS3 is the sticking point now.

Early adoption of PS4/Xbone is redundant.. but if it proves itself down the line with several interesting exclusives and better hardware iterations then why the hell not?

I'm buying it because it's shiny and new and I have the money. Truth be told though, there's barely any games I'm interested in at the moment (at least at launch) and it just looks like an upgraded PS3. The technical leap each generation takes is getting smaller and smaller.

They seem to want to push the streaming tech, but who knows for sure.

I think this is probably a good point in time to take a nice, long break from buying games. The new gen consoles, in my opinion, have very little to offer over the current gen ones, and developers won't really start pumping titles until 18-24 months after launch. Look at the Wii-U right now - why the hell did anyone buy one? So you can play another iteration of Mario? It will be the same story with PS4 and XBO (minus the Mario, of course).

I'm of the opinion that some of the best and overlooked games come out at the end of particular generation's lifespan, so the next year or so should be very interesting for 360 and PS3 owners. On top of that, a lot of games are tossed into the bargain bin at game stores, so some very good deals are sure to be had.

And then, there's the backlog issue...

The PS4 isn't just an upgraded PS3. The architecture is very different and will be much more 3rd party friendly. The newer consoles will also open up a lot more processing power that has stagnated what they have been able to do with recent games, especially compared to PC. The multiplatform releases with an emphasis on consoles has also held back PC games to a degree as well.

Current gen specs are really tapped out and behind the curve. This isn't just graphics but a bunch of the things that have been discussed in many similar threads the past year or so.

I won't be getting a PS4 any time soon. The only two games that I'm super excited for (Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts 3) don't even have release dates announced. Plus I still want a Vita, so I'll be getting that and then I'll start looking into a PS4. Probably after a price drop though.

However, even though it won't be soon, I know I will be getting one. It's an inevitability that I must buy every Sony system eventually. Not like I'm a brand name loyalist or anything, just that they've proven to me over the years that the Sony consoles always have the largest library of games that appeal to my tastes. And I don't see that changing any time soon.

I agree with you here. This isn't a day one purchase for me, but about 2 years into it, there will be a price drop somewhere and a good library worth investing in. I have never been too big on the Sony systems, but what was provided in the exclusives for the PS3 definitely won me over.

All good points. On the flip side the way I see it is I am going to own a PS4 at some point for sure, and yeah it is going to drop in price at some point, and also sure the best games will come out later and not right out of the gate. BUT for that 1-2 year period, for that $50-100 price difference, why not enjoy the system and what is has to offer from the beginning? I'd feel like I was only delaying the inevitable. I am of the opinion that if you've got it to spend and if you will enjoy at least some of those launch titles, even if only a few, you should worry about that small amount of money you can save when you can already be enjoying the latest games and maximizing the new consoles current gen life cycle.

The backlog issue is just one I've come to accept that I probably will never overcome. But then again most of my games have been $5-10 investments each so I not going to loose sleep over it and just try to play what I want, when I want.

Exactly. Some people are saying they're going to wait for Infamous which is a few months after release. That means you spend the same amount of money but don't get the free copy of Driveclub.

I wouldn't wait for Infamous. The first game was an overrated piece of trash.
