Very true. And I think the retro community should do a better job of making those hidden gems more well known. I mean, other than the hidden gem articles on racketboy, I don't see that happening. Most retro game sites/reviewers focus on the same games again and again, cause those are the ones they grew up with.Ack wrote: But while I did give him some of the mainstream games, I also wanted to point out that there is a bit hidden away in there that he might not have heard about. I'd hardly call Cybernator mainstream. And who knows? He might like it. Is it worth picking up a SNES for? Probably not. But there might also be other hidden gems he really enjoys. Just because the big names don't appeal to one, doesn't mean that the console holds nothing for you. I don't care for Sonic games or many of the Sega Genesis' big titles, but that doesn't mean I will write off the console entirely. There's bound to be something that interests me on it.

Hey now I thought we were being pretty civil. Even S guys like myself have given reasons why someone should look into the N.D.D.D. wrote:Oh joy... So many N VS S comments/fanboi flamewar/etc incoming I'm sure...
But yes, you should be beat.
There are a lot of great action titles on the SNES that Genesis fans would enjoy, you've just got to do some digging and a lot of them aren't very cheap these days.
Granted there isn't as deep a hole to dig on the SNES as some other consoles which again comes from its immense popularity.

Nobody's really jumping on him or anything either, everyone's just all "Well that's a shame that you're not into it, oh well."
Maybe General_Norris should've been more inflammatory to get us all fired up?

Nice new thread title
Anyways, it seems to me that the SNES suffers from my gaming habits. I've grown incredibly strict and I'm only interested in a handful of titles, only the best and most interesting, and when it comes to unique experiences, the Super Nintendo falls short.
Don't get me wrong, the games are amazing, and polished, but they aren't particularly unique and that hurts when you want a very small list. So, for example, I don't have much of a reason to play Castlevania IV when I haven't played III or Rondo and with so many platformers around, the basic concepts of Super Mario World seem a bit too tame.
Add to this that I don't collect arcade ports and that I'm already very picky and the list gets cut a lot. Consider that I only want around 6-7 titles for the Dreamcast and NES, which are probably the best consoles for retrogaming.

Ok, so I guess the question is: What do you generally play?

Play? Who plays games on Racketboy? I thought we only spent small fortunes to buy games, set them up on our selves and stare at themfoxhound1022 wrote:Ok, so I guess the question is: What do you generally play?

Shmups, fighters, and the occasional platformers are what I play.
