Aren't you too old for video games?
Re: Aren't you too old for video games?
Yes I am too old for videogames. And so are all of you. By code number 363729B I hereby demand that this site be shut down immediately and replaced with a useful forum about creating your own fishing lures.

OP, if you're interested in even more discussion of this question, check out this thread: http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... 45&t=36678
And THIS.BoneSnapDeez wrote:I work with a bunch of "regular" late-20s/early-30s Joe Blow guys and I have to say most of their lives are boring as shit. They don't have hobbies, passions, collections, obsessions, etc... most of them wake up, go to work, go home and vegetate until they pass out. Having conversations with such people bores me to tears as they're not interested in anything. So yeah I'll take my "childish" hobbies over a life like that any day.

That's because your wife is a smart woman and knows you could be doing all that other crap and is happy to have you home even if your concentration is currently temporarily on something else.mas wrote:... My wife doesn't care. I would rather stay home and play games than to spend money at the bars, drinking, play the lottery, smoke, do drugs, or any of that other crap that people waste money on.
Honestly, there are worse things people could be doing than playing games. There are plenty of hobbies other people have that I think are a total waste of time, but as long as they're not hurting anyone, who the hell am I to criticize them about it?
It's like scraper said:
It's a hobby you find enjoyable. That's it. If someone says something snarky, channel Luke and explain to them the error of their ways.scarper wrote:... I play video games for the same reason other people read books and watch movies.

Your only too old when your dead. If any form of expression perfectly encapsulates man's desire to stay alive, it's the videogame.

Sadly, most people are like this. Think about it, at best some watch sports from time to time, but that's it, there's no interest in anything. They have zero involvement in anything and zero interest in pursuing whatever they might like, which often leads to comptempt towards those who do because they need to cover their own insecurities by trying to tell others what they are doing is dumb. After all, if it wasn't dumb, they would be doing it, right?BoneSnapDeez wrote:They don't have hobbies, passions, collections, obsessions, etc... most of them wake up, go to work, go home and vegetate until they pass out. I have a word for people like that. I call them "normaltards." Also in this category are people who can actually have conversations about shows like Dancing With The Stars and American Idol, listen to Top 40 pop music, watch sports on TV, and any other "normal" stuff. They're normaltards.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Here's the thing, though. I work with a bunch of "regular" late-20s/early-30s Joe Blow guys and I have to say most of their lives are boring as shit. I'm a nerd through and through. Playing video games, building plastic models, watching cartoons and anime, reading SF and fantasy novels, reading comics and manga---these are my passions. There's nothing immature about any of this. However, not treating others with respect and judging others---that is true immaturity. Thus, anyone who condescendingly asks "Aren't you too old for video games" is truly the immature one.
Oh, and I'm 36, married, and have a child.

No way am I too old. My dad is almost 60 and he plays Dragon Quest and Pokémon, so why should I feel that way?
Besides, if I don't want to play a game, then I can read a book or something. Actually, I've been doing a lot more reading now more than ever since I got my Kindle last year.

WANNA GET YOUR WALLS CRUSHED?

Wait, so if people enjoy things like top 40 music and sports, it's okay for you to look down on them, but if they look down on gaming, they're immature? Not sure if that's what you're saying or not, but it looks that way to me...greg wrote:I have a word for people like that. I call them "normaltards."
