It's really quite terrible. It makes up for it somewhat with strangeness. You play as and against weird anime characters like Diesel Dan, Space Queen and Thunder Boy who mercilessly taunt you like this was a fighting game. The game itself is something you might expect from a Windows 3.1 game. Developed by "Mud Duck Productions" (who went on to publish a bunch of bowling games, Malice and PowerDrome) and released in 2003 for the PlayStation 1. Trying to control an air hockey... handle... thing... is very frustrating with a PS1 d-pad. I love it for it's weirdness and uniqueness but it's not a good game at all.

retrosportsgamer wrote:One game i'll be relooking at soon (and I lucked into another CIB copy at Goodwill - I have one to give away in some kind of contest) is NHL 2-on-2 Open Ice Challenge. It was Midway's mid-90s NBA Jam hockey clone (before Hitz much later). Was in arcades and only had a PC and PlayStation release with no sequels.
I own that game, too. It can be fun playing against your friends. But the computer AI cheats like a bastard. Also, the goalies are weak as hell so you can rack up some unreasonably high amount of goals every game - like 20-18.

Yeah, I know about the updated versions of NHL '94. They are VERY cool. Maybe I'll get into that at some point. I know they've been doing updated versions of it for years now.

If you are referring to me, I don't own any EA NHL games on the Saturn. Just Sega Sports ones.

As expected, NHL 2001 on the ps1 is nowhere near the PC version. I ordered it for the ps2 and I'm hoping it'll be a lot better. Still waiting for '97 to get here for the Saturn. But considering how the '98 games play on the N64, I'm not expecting it to be that great. haha

I played '98 a lot on the PlayStation and it was really good - so my thought is the Saturn would be close there.

The N64 was just not an ideal platform for EA titles.

holy shit, there's an NHL 12 hack based on 94????? Wow. Wow. Is there a ROM of it somewhere?

NHL 94 is definitely my favorite.

I also have NHL 06 for PS2 which plays beautifully and has an emulated version of 94 as a bonus. :D
