Decided to pick this up, and (for now) grabbed an RF adapter for $7 bucks. The auction said system was working so if it doesn't I'm thinking I could get my cash back.

Why are Jaguar A/V cables so damn expensive?

Looking over BE's website I'll probably jump on a Jaguar with a boxed Tempest 2k and one other game (but which one?) this afternoon. My Christmas check cleared from my grandparents.

Just ordered from Best Electronics. The guy was extremely friendly. He said they're running out of Jaguars (and everything else) so if you see something you want from them, don't wait too long to order.

I just bought a system from Ebay... maybe I should re-sell that and hop on the Best Electronics? Haha

And Yes! I've been told those are new systems

Man, $135 for a new-in-box is reasonable. Interesting that Atari is still honoring the original warranties.

Whatever you want. I'm a nut for having CIB stuff. Also ordered it with Tempest 2000 and Wolf 3D.

When I was on the phone I asked about that and it's Best Electronic's honoring the warranty, not Atari. Sunnyvale was also the largest Atari warehouse, and as such BE has tons and tons of parts. For example, those drop in motherboard replacements.

I believe I purchased a couple 2600 controllers from them; I should have called first. But I'm happy with the Auction and only paying $75 for a system in really good shape.

Just wish these controllers were different, any chance I can use a different system controller on the Jag?

There are a few 3rd party controllers but as I said, ergonomically, people seem to say its actually not bad. The keypads the only thing that seems to be shit.

I'd like to pick up the 6 button.... it doesn't really look that bad to me, looks better than the N64 controller at least (Hate that damn thing!). On the bright side the storage games case I have for my '64 games will also fit Jaguar games too. I really want to get my hands on this thing

Best Electronic emailed me back tonight
The Atari Jaguar systems are not quite that old Paul. They are more in
the 8 to 10 year range. All of the New Atari US Jaguar consoles we have in
stock came out of the local Sunnyvale Atari Warehouses when we cleared them
out over a 4 to 8 year time frame. They were among the 8,000+ pallets of
Atari goods we got out of Atari Paul. For the amount of them we got in
(Pallets and Pallets of the new ones) with this Holiday sales, we are now
expecting to sell out of the sometime next year

As an update, I got my Jaguar and 2 games, all brand new, in the shrinkwrap, smelling as if they were manufactured yesterday.

I have to say, I'm honestly impressed with the Jaguar. Tempest 2000 is absolutely stellar, but that's not my favorite game currently. Nope, that title goes to Power Drive Rally. This is as hidden of a gem as they get. Nothing on the Jaguar is exactly known well to the mainstream, but Power Drive Rally really deserves mention along side Tempest 2000. The game is basically DiRT, Colin McRae, or what have you in overhead 2D form. There are tons of tracks, variable surfaces that cause your car to handle differently, damage, and more. The game also sports some decent tunes and colourful graphics. The handling is spot on, it's an arcade game, but each surface feels unique.

It's not just straight up racing either. There are also awesome skill tests and special stages. However, the game is tough as nails. Luckily it has 3 save spots which you can use in between any event.

As for the actual hardware. The BE multi-cable works well, though the S-Video isn't quite as good as say the Saturn's. Hardware wise everything actually feels really well built, aside from the exposed circuitry on the back and the lack of a dust flap on the cart slot, I don't have much of an issue with the build. It certainly looks sleek and cool though.

The controller isn't nearly as bad as it's made out to be. It's much better than the N64 pad and several other pads IMO. Nothing is great on it though, everything is just decent. Ergonomically it actually fits my hands quite well though.

All in all. I'm impressed with the Jaguar. The only game I haven't had fun playing is CyberMorph. Currently I own:

CyberMorph
Iron Soldier
Missile Command 3D (has a weird bug and can't make it past the first wave in 3D mode, Virtual and classic work fine though)
Power Drive Rally
Tempest 2000
Wolfenstein 3D

Also... more games need Melt-O-Vision.
