Doesn't the PS2 also hold the record for most consoles sold at launch? I think I remember it shattering that record which was held by the Dreamcast at the time?

Yeah, you gotta say that Sony's engineers maybe got carried away by the PS2's success when they were working on the PS3.

IMO, for the all-time greatest consoles, the PS2 should No.1, and NES 2nd, I know this will rough people's feathers. But think about it, the NES save the videogame industry, while the PS2 went beyond that a gaming console could do more such as being a multi-media platform and provided the baby steps for Sony for on-line gaming (DC had shown the potential for on-line gaming, Xbox proven its success).

And PS2 still has the widest range of games that appeal to all kinds of gamers, and I doubt any current consoles can match its library of RPG's in the next 5 years (when's the next Persona, Suikoden, and even the next Chrono series???)

Going to disagree. Not that many PS2 or Xbox games used their entire storage capacity. More storage capacity usually just means that game developers do not have to bother with optimizing their code.
