CBFD is a game I sold/re-bought at least 3 times in my life. I currently don't own a copy. Occasionally, I'll get a strong urge to play it again, but I'd likely spend only a few hours before moving on with my life.
Also, hearing about rising GCN prices makes me appreciative that I re-built my collection when I did. Still my all-time favorite console. There are very few titles I want that I do not own yet for the 'cube.

Re: Increase of prices for retro games (NES-Gamecube)
Does anyone watch the market?
I use this site a lot to find out which systems are going down and which are spiking: http://videogames.pricecharting.com/
Also isn't bad if your looking for a price check on a certain game...
The newer the system is...the less you have to pay for "used" games. For instance the Wii is about 9 bucks right now, while the NES is about 16 bucks.
The only bad thing about this site is not all of the systems are being graphed. Like the PSP, DS, 3DS, Wii U and so on...
I'd say get:
Gamecube games
Wii games
PS1, PS2 games
and Xbox games
Those ones seem to be staying somewhat steady or dropping. The rest are just shooting up or are not at a realistic price.

I observed that Pricecharting.com Is only good for generalization. Like seeing where prices have gone from a year ago. I wish there was a site that showed a "good deal" price from todays market. You can't really do that w/ pricecharting.com.GirlGamer55 wrote:Does anyone watch the market?

Re: Increase of prices for retro games (NES-Gamecube)
I find that using Ebay BIN and Completed listings are quite useful for tracking the cost vs value of certain games. As most people know, Nintendo games tend to trend upward for rare/popular releases, but one very interesting factor that I've noticed has been the involvement of Youtube personalities.
For example, when The Gamechasers first found that $5 copy of The Flintstones: Surprise at Dinosaur Peak, prices for that game more than doubled (there are BINs for this game at over $1000 on Ebay now) and the same can be said for Little Samson. The number of these games available and their rarity didn't change, but people became aware of them, and that has been driving price increases.
With the retro boom going on today, it's no surprise that supply/demand is so skewed for the rare and popular titles out there.

Completed listings, yes, but BINs? As in uncompleted ones? I don't think that's a good metric at all. People overprice stuff as BIN a LOT.Retrogamer0001 wrote:I find that using Ebay BIN and Completed listings are quite useful for tracking the cost vs value of certain games. The stuff about youtube personalities is pretty dead on though. I remember when Mike Matei made a video about hidden SNES gems, literally every game he featured spiked up like crazy in value overnight. Some of them went back down after things settled, but yeah, it's definitely a phenomenon.
Even in a more general sense, I'm sure AVGN was definitely a big reason a lot of people starting buying up NES games again to begin with.
There's also stuff like the highly publicized $13,000 Stadium Events cartridge that alerted quite a few people to the fact that there was a big collector market for these games.
The real thing I want to know is how much of these price spikes are being fueled by speculators trying to nab up games they think they can sell for a lot later? Something like that is impossible to measure, of course, but I think we all know that they're out there.

Re: Increase of prices for retro games (NES-Gamecube)
I like to use BIN listings as a very general gauge for when a particular game "goes mainstream" - that is, when people finally catch on that it's rare or valuable. As far as what a game is worth and what a game costs, BIN prices are, as you say, pretty useless.

Yep...I only got back into retro games because of people on Youtube like AVGN or Pat the NES Punk.Retrogamer0001 wrote:I find that using Ebay BIN and Completed listings are quite useful for tracking the cost vs value of certain games. Of course so did a bunch of other people...which makes me wonder if they are doing the right thing, pulling out these old games and showing them off. It just spikes all the prices up..

Yeah I know what you mean. Those videos are great and I love watching them, but lots of games they mention goes up in price. I guess it comes with the territory, you can't get the best of both worlds **Insert More Clichè Phrases**GirlGamer55 wrote: Yep...I only got back into retro games because of people on Youtube like AVGN or Pat the NES Punk.
