I agree and disagree with the pond of comments that is this topic, but here are my two cents on the issue:
It's true that no one has done anything but sullied his name after death, and I really don't think just because a person died people will change their mind about him. Sad enough to admit, I'd rather people keep their original opinion than be two faced and praise him after he leaves a room.
For lack of a better example, it'd be like people saying Hitler had a bad childhood, and they felt sorry for him. MJ was a great person in my mind, he just got a bad wrap after some kid's parents felt it'd be worthwhile to extort money from him.
I believe that MJ just had a fancination with children being that he never really had a chance to be one. I think his brother's commented that his dad essentially pushed MJ to carry the family after he was recognized as a major talent. Due to his crappy childhood, he wanted a chance to be a kid again. As creepy as it may be, he did so by hanging out with kids, playing with kids, etc. It's no wonder that some parents would throw a red flag after seeing that behavior in an adult.
But on the point of sullying his grave, this is what gets me:
He spent his entire life keeping his children out of the public spotlight to allow them to have a normal childhood, like he never had, and as soon as he dies, what does grandma and grandpa do? Parade them on stage in front of a world wide broadcast... wtf?
They haven't respected Michael Jackson at all after he died.

Re: They haven't respected Michael Jackson at all after he died.
These threads always bring out the worst in people. Here is my opinion on a few things.
1. "Why does the state of death suddenly require us to respect someone we may or may not have respected in life?"
As far as I am concerned this question can't be answered the same by all people. As a christian I believe that IF he did the things he was accused of that he is now receiving the judgment he was due. In any case it isn't my place to judge the personal lives of people whom I have never met and have had no personal impact on my life. Would I have trusted my own children in his hands? No. But that is all the judgment I am prepared to make. You have the right to feel any way you like but for me bashing dead people is just a matter of poor taste. What purpose could it honestly serve at this point? They have already passed and any further speculation on their bad qualities is pointless. On the flip side, I also don't feel it necessary to suddenly praise or feel adoration for someone who has passed if I didn't previously feel that way.
2. "He raped children."
He definitely had some strange habits and there were some things that certainly didn't make sense but that is just an unfathomable leap to claim you know with certainty that he did any such thing. The guy really was robbed of a childhood and his fascination with being around kids could very well have been because of that very reason. The only people who "know" anything about it are him and the children in question.
3. His music.
It's all a matter of taste but I think it is hard to deny that he made a huge impact on the music industry and that as a musician and artist he was a talented man. If you are willing to say otherwise it would obviously be for personal distaste for the man and not his body of work.
4. "Sometimes I'm surprised you are a moderator"
Uhmmmm...did you even see any of Mozgus' posts? Moderators are obviously allowed to have their own opinions and state them as blatantly as they please. I do think that they should hold themselves to the same standard they intend to enforce with. I also think that for the most part they do this already. Anyone can have a lapse in "class". As long as they don't start dropping a ban hammer for someone not sharing their opinions it seems harmless. The work and contributions put in by them is always appreciated as well. Though some are really top notch about their user interactions, I'm looking at you Ack.
I guess that is all I have to say about that.

That's complete crap. no reputable news sources reported this as it's obviously made up read the writing it's appalling 'Lisa Hodge' a journalist with seemingly no grasp of grammar or contextual language.LiL-mAc wrote:I saw the news on TV but here's what i could find on the net:Breetai wrote:Source?LiL-mAc wrote:Just in case you guys didn't know the kid who told the media he was sexually abuse by MJ denied all that after his death. Please stop judging MJ. Nobody is perfect.
Any celebrity who puts themselves and their actions in the limelight are in a position to be judged. That's just how it is, like it or not.

Here's a source on what he was talking about. I think it pretty well takes care of that part. It all seems to be properly cited and legit.

On the obvious need of some people to put down an easy target - Oh well, people feel temporary, artificial fulfillment from judging and disrespecting. Its nothing new or surprising.

Re: They haven't respected Michael Jackson at all after he died.
I'm actually amazed that people think the only great things he did are Thriller and Off the Wall. Personally, I find almost all of his musical output was great. Also, nobody did what he did for music videos, or could even dance like him. And a lot of black musicians cite him as really paving the way for a lot of them. I think he was the first black person to ever do music video. Billie Jean and Metallica's One I think contributed a lot to the growing popularity of music videos as the time. He was a pioneer and made history in multiple ways. I wish people wouldn't forget his humanitarian work too. He has done a LOT in the way of humanitarian work. Truthfully, anyone who takes an objective look at everything he did in his life will see he brought a LOT of good to this world, even if he was a bit weird.
Also, whoever said he didn't have vitiligo is wrong. His autopsy confirms that he had it. I get so annoyed at people making fun of him for a lot of things that were directly related to his vitiligo, including his aversion to the sun and I have heard vitiligo even requires surgeries for some people, not to mention the Pepsi commercial incident. Making fun of someone isn't funny when the person doing it is just showing their ignorance.
I knew the Jordan admission thing was fake. That should have been obvious to everyone, but there's a lot of other info out there that supports he didn't do anything to those kids and that is was people trying to get money out of him. And didn't people use to say he molested the Home Alone kid. Every time that kid has ever been asked about Michael Jackson, he always said they just hung out and played video games. And the kid doesn't seem traumaitzed or scarred in any way. I remember he did a guest appearance of WWE Monday Night Raw not long ago and has been dating the actress who played Jackie on that 70s show for a long time. He seems to be having a pretty normal life
People can believe whatever they want about MJ, but I find a lot of people's cricisms are not based on facts, but what they see or hear on tv, which included years of people in the media and comediens making fun of him. People should do their research before they judge and learn to think for themselves. That's all I'm saying

As if its that far-fetched that people would do anything to get to his money - be it by media lies and exploitation, or false accusations of crimes. Its really 101

Re: They haven't respected Michael Jackson at all after he died.
sooo.......anyone have anything to say about my starting question? For example if a MJ fan will buy any of these things or not?
I for one did not go to see This is it even though I kind of wanted to, because I found it too early to cash in his after death popularity.
Then again this isn't as bad as what they did with Peter Sellers and the Trail of the Pink Panther.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trail_of_the_Pink_Panther
he dies and they decided to use deleted footage of him from the previous movies, to make another pink panther movie. OMG show some respect.

Doesn't it depend on the situation? You are dealing with a major celebrity who is now under the spotlight for pedophilia. You are offered a very, very large cash settlement to drop the case. This celebrity is not out doing the stalking, but reportedly taking advantage of victims who are offering themselves to him. If it did go to court, you would be fighting very powerful celebrity lawyers. I definitely would have taken the money in this case.crux wrote:As a father of two children, this statement is absolutely nuts. You know what's more important than financial security that may or may not have been adequate without potentially extorting someone? Making sure a fucking pedophile doesn't molest children ever again!
In the case of an aggressive pedophile walking the streets, I definitely agree with you.
FYI, I am not sure how saying that "as the [parent] of [x number of] children" gives this argument any credence. It is an appeal to emotion. If I told you how many children I have, or if I have any, would it change the meat of the argument, or just the emotion behind it?
As for the claim that the boy who was sexually molested by MJ now denying it (and committing suicide???)
This is a tabloid. This does not count as a legitimate source. You might as well give a source that says Jesus reincarnated as a cow in Rajasthan.I saw the news on TV but here's what i could find on the net:
http://www.masala.com/13250-jordy-chand ... -sex-abuse
Absolutely false. I was in Japan when he died and for a long time after, and this was most certainly NOT the case there at all. It's true that no one has done anything but sullied his name after death
If I was a big fan of MJ's music, I would buy those things for sure. Why not? Shouldn't it be about the music/art that the individual created primarily?sooo.......anyone have anything to say about my starting question? For example if a MJ fan will buy any of these things or not?
