Games You Hate That Everyone Else Loves
Re: Games You Hate That Everyone Else Loves
I really don't understand the point of rpgs. If I want a great story I'll see a movie, watch tv, or read a book, I don't need something interactive to enjoy a story. The point of games is gameplay, and I don't even understand what I'm supposed to do in the rpgs I've played. Do you solve puzzles or what? The battles seem like trial and error, you just go through attacks until you find one that works. Except in mario rpg, none of my attacks hurt the crocodile dude, I guess I was supposed to find a new one or something, but that sounded boring so I gave up.

Well, you don't get into RPGs for the story. The story is almost always something that could be cooked up by a seventh-grader.
You get into RPGs because of the characters. Even when the story is about as complicated as "Your Princess is in another castle", a good set of characters can sometimes allow you to look past this.
A good battle system helps, but it really all comes down to the characters. If you don't feel for who you control, there isn't much of a point. Practically every RPG I don't like (Tales of Symphonia and Final Fantasy VIII, off the top of my head), I don't like because I found the characters to be colorless and stale.

World of FUCKING warcraft! I hate that shit with a passion.... And the O so fun point and click rpg games(excluding fallout 1 &2).
Counterstrike: I like valves games but this one makes no sense to me why so many people play this "realistic shooter". I feel like I am playing Hogan's alley!
Speaking of realistic shooters The console Rainbow Six games(las vegas). Goddammit give a new REAL Rainbow 6 FPS like RB6:3!
Strider for Gen: This game is a piece of shit. The sound is awful. The controls suck. The game has frame rate issues. The only thing that kept me playing was the ridiculous and hilarious boss fights.
And not to forget Zelda. The games have virtually no appeal to me.

The "Brawl" games for the Gamecube and Wii
If I wanted to play a fighting game I'd go play some Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Virtua Fighter, Soul Calibur, Tekken, etc.. why would I want to play this crap?

I can't stand these fighting games. I much prefer the Smash kinda fighting system that allows you to use any move with just 2 buttons, as opposed to memorizing gigantic strings of button combinations to do one special.Weekend_Warrior wrote:If I wanted to play a fighting game I'd go play some Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Virtua Fighter, Soul Calibur, Tekken, etc.. why would I want to play this crap?
I like the idea of a the percentage system used in the Smash games, but I feel a health bar (a la Jump Ultimate Stars) should be there too. Battle Stadium DON got the right idea with a special bar needed for specials and finishers, but the finishers would be too overpowered if a healthwas in place.
Re: Games You Hate That Everyone Else Loves
I agree, I like fighting games that are easy to get into and that anybody can play. I could care less about memorizing combos. Not that I'm any good at smash bros either. Plus I don't play multiplayer very much and single player modes in those other type of fighting games seem completely pointless. It's fun to play through them maybe once or twice but that's it. And I usually beat them by mashing buttons or using the one combo I've actually memorized and can pull off more than 50% of the time.Reverend wrote:I can't stand these fighting games. I like Smash Bros. Don't love it, but its fun enough.Reverend wrote: I can't stand these fighting games. I much prefer the Smash kinda fighting system that allows you to use any move with just 2 buttons, as opposed to memorizing gigantic strings of button combinations to do one special.

Jump Ultimate Stars is great, and I really wish they could transition it from the DS to a console. JUS just gets ever note right, as far as I'm concerned.
I downloaded Battle Stadium DON for the PS2 and burnt it to a Verbatim that cost less than a dollar. I felt VERY RIPPED OFF. I was hoping for JUS on a console, and I got crap - utter crap. Everything felt so damn floaty, there was a severe lack of moves to do, all the characters felt like nothing more than model swaps of the rest of the cast, the weapons were severely underpowered and I never felt a need to go out of my way to get them, unlocking characters is a huge chore - and this is coming from a guy who enjoyed the way you unlock characters in MvC2 ... it just felt so damn unfinished. And this was just from me pirating the game - I'd hate to imagine what I would have felt like if I just imported it straight away.
If you want an anime-based Smash Bros clone, Evangelion: Battle Orchestra, while still not that good, is a much better waste of money than Battle Stadium DON.

Halo, it's not bad, but the hype destroys a typically mediocre FPS
Guitar Hero/Rock Band, fun in very small doses, the guitars are repetitive and unlike a real guitar, and the drums are unbelievably unresponsive. The vocals are okay though, I guess.
