I have yet to have any friend who agrees with (most, the most known) gay activist groups or feminists. They don't feel represented at all, and some feel they are being used to carry the wrong agenda or that they are hurting those who want to protect.
For example, there's a "pro-gay" commercial in which a mom takes his small son to the doctor. The doctor , slightly embarrased, tells her indirectly that his son is gay (As in "he's very sensitive..."). And yes the kid is, well, a kid and gives the impression being gay is a sickness or something to be ashamed of because the doctor can't say it directly. He tells the mother to take care of his son and not limi his freedom.
So, since she's a good mother and her son is gay she changes all "male toys" and gives him dolls. Because being gay makes you a girl. If you disagree you are an homophobe.
I always found hypocrital to have a "feminist group" or a "gay group" instead of a group that fights for human rights and equality in general. For example the pressured the Spanish goverment to make a law against domestic violence. Domestic Violence, as everyone knows, only affects women because man are evil and now there are several crimes where a man goes to prison 6 years more than a woman for the same thing.
Gay groups didn't care until a gay man reported domestic violence by his (male) parent. The law didn't affect him (He's a man) so the gay groups made an incredible fuss because the law was homophobe. Not because it discriminated against men, no, simply because it hurt gays. My faith in those gay groups and such was low but after that I lost all my respect for them.
The idea behind this campaign is to point out how gay people feel when they are insulted, by insulting people. The problem is that when you are insulted you don't say "Man, how evil I am", you say "Shut up faggot" and use the cannon fodder they give you (Man, they are all so "Don't insult me" but they try to insult me, faggots)
Also they seem to forget that a good insult is the one that hurts your opponent, and gay works very well because it attacks his manliness. It's like saying "Oh, don't use guns because guns kill people" when you are in a war. So you can't expect a lot from people who like to insult each other because they are stupid enough so as to insult others because they lost in a videogame.
Also it seems to me that gay gropus are pretty dogmatic, but it's an impression not something I have evidence of.

^Duh, there are lots of things named ESA
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ESA_(disambiguation)
I think we should make something similar. Imagine a guy holding a videogame controller and saying "That's so "Guy who gets penises in his ass"".
And then quietly explain that we don't think that way so we expect sensible people like them to do the same. We don't think there's nothing wrong with getting penises in your ass so stop saying there's something bad about us,
They will get angry and should understand why their campaing isn't working.

You know, if they really wanted to get people to stop using the term "gay" in the manner it's commonly used they should start substituting ethnic slurs in place of "gay" in their campaign, to demonstrate that the homosexual community considers it as bad as an ethnic slur.
Of course, they'd catch all kinds of hell for it.

That is actually a good idea, I think.MrPopo wrote:You know, if they really wanted to get people to stop using the term "gay" in the manner it's commonly used they should start substituting ethnic slurs in place of "gay" in their campaign, to demonstrate that the homosexual community considers it as bad as an ethnic slur.

...but what if some of us do own more games than we have friends? I mean, I can't come up with 300 friends off the top of my head, can you?
And we do have the ECA, the Entertainment Consumers Association.
And for the record:

Haha Ack, that reminds me of this:Ack wrote:...but what if some of us do own more games than we have friends? I mean, I can't come up with 300 friends off the top of my head, can you?

I love how the guy in the background looks like he's the smart one of the group and is like, "Dude, you totally spelled that wrong" or "Dude, you are totally at the wrong rally."
Re: Website tries to protect gay rights, with bad method
My wife works for a GLBT group that tries to prevent bullying in schools. They didn't really like the way this group was trying to fight name calling with name calling, so I knew about this ad campaign a long time ago. But even though two wrongs don't make a right, the word "gay" gets thrown around way too much. And it is amazing how much hatred and prejudice there is against gays or against straight people that are perceived to be gay or have gay-like qualities.

Just a note: The ESA lobbies for industry concerns on behalf of publishers, platform holders and developers. The ECA is a fairly new group that lobbies for the rights of gamers, the players. They are usually on the same side of issues, but sometimes they are not. Publishers aren't always looking out for gamers, after all.

oh ouch, oh no! The gaming community has been insulted! Seriously?
Okay gay rights activists, screw your heads on right.
Step one: Tell us what exactly these rights are that you are being deprived of because seriously, most of us still don't know. Have laws been passed against you? What constitutional rights are you missing out on? Tell us!
Step two: Stop attempting to deprive us of our rights to free speech.
Step three: Hire an actual add consultant.
