Re: Together Retro: Snatcher
I would have to say that not just Blade Runner specifically, but really Snatcher is very much endebted to the work of Philip K. Dick in general. It seems almost like an homage.

noiseredux wrote:well, I tried to get the SegaCD version with Picodrive to run on my PSP. No good. Said I needed USA BIOS. Couldn't figure it out. Then tried the translated MSX version on my PSP. No good. Was looking for .ROM extension, and these were .DSK files that were in a .ZIP (tried running the ZIP too with no luck).
Oh well. I didnt even really want to have to play on PSP. Maybe if I can get a homebrew launcher for my Gamecube soon enough, I'll try to play it from there.
What's the easiest way to lauch HB from GC anyway?
Just search the web for the drivers for Sega CD.. Snatcher works like a charm on Picodrive. If you cant find the drivers online, PM me with your email acct and I will email them to you. To set up the bios you just copy them into the Picodrive folder in your PSP and when you open the program go to change options, sega cd options then select the file for your driver. Easier than it sounds

Just got my SNATCHER up and moving. First time with an HDTV & SEGA CD though. I was having difficulties with the Justifier. Like it would only shoot @ 1 spot, no where near where i was aiming. Any ideas on a remedy, or do i need to use a CRT with a Light gun.

Yes, a CRT is required for any older light guns.
I've played through Act 1 so far. There's a lot of great stuff in there - an interesting plot, great style, some nice tongue-in-cheek humor, and a lot of content that is hidden behind the surface. I'm finding myself grateful that the game was censored, however, as the game comes out downright smutty at times. Gillian is tireless in his pursuit of women and double entendres. The game even makes fun of itself about it, but in Act 1 at least it goes so far as to become tiresome. At the scene where the first piece of nudity would have appeared (I'm avoiding spoilers), I was glad it was covered up as it would have been unnecessary. If the dialogue wasn't as pollished, at times I would be convinced it was written by a thirteen year old boy.
Also, the game unnecessarily breaks the fourth wall from time to time, in order to be witty, but it comes off as gimmicky.
Aside from that, I'm thoroughly enjoying it. Hopefully Acts 2 and 3 will tone down on the never-ending flirtation and euphemisms.

Re: Together Retro: Snatcher
I'm just about to wrap up Act 1 if my memory serves me correctly. I totally forgot how well Snatcher incorporates the videophone and the HQ computer, providing some welcome variety to the standard text adventure interface. Creating the visual montage was also very cool, even if determining which eyes were "piercing" and "threatening" was more a matter of trial and error than understanding the graphics. Great touches of animation to the static background images as well. Looking forward to Act 2...

This is a really interesting point that I've never considered. While people often compare Snatcher to Blade Runner, this isn't exactly the case, as Blade Runner itself varies from Dick's novel. It's kind of neat. If you're a fan, you get three different versions of the same great story...one with a dash of Terminator for good measure.

Re: Together Retro: Snatcher
No matter what I do I just can't get this game up and running. My problem is the infamous freeze when you try to get to the ruins, early on. I tried downloading from different sources, having the iso and the mp3's all in the same folder, running the .cue file instead of just the .iso, converting the mp3's to wav and even burning to a cd, all to no avail.
I'm running Fusion 3.6
Any suggestions?
Edit: Apparently the solution was in either converting the mp3's to wav or just burn the game, they both work fine. It just took me a while to realize that due to the savestate I was using that somehow prevented the game from advancing.
@ Unleaded Logic, you seemed to be having the same problem, try this
Edit 2: Been playing for a bit. This game is bloody brilliant, it's all I got to say. Anyone else noted this?

Beat it today, my first time ever playing it and I really enjoyed it. Kind of sad it was over so fast, but it was the kind of game where I kept wanting to see what was going to happen with the plot next so you don't put it down and the next thing you know it's all over...feel like you don't get very many games like that these days.

SPOILERS!!!
What did you think of the ending? Proves that Kojima definitely is a fan of the incredibly long ending cutscene (I think it went for...45 minutes..last I remember). Also, did you feel that the game was setting up for a sequel with your character heading off to the original base to end it for good? I wonder if that was going to be the next chapter in the story, but was never finished.

Re: Together Retro: Snatcher
This game must really hate me...
So, I finally reached the morgue in the hospital, only for the game to freeze during that sequence after examining the bodies. Also, since I was expecting something big, I saved just at the beginning of the video, overwriting my only save file.
Since I'm not really expecting a solution (browsed google to death and apparently no one had this problem besides me), would anyone be kind enough to send me a save file (compatible with Kega) either from before that sequence (for me to try and make it work), or right after?
Edit: Problem solved!
Found a lot of Snatcher save files, they can be found here in case anyone's interested.
