There is no point calling Paypal. They are terribly unhelpful. And AFAIK its not a toll-free call either! They don't want you to call - they don't want to help.

You can't appeal or do anything once a claim has been resolved. At least I never found a way to (and yes I even wasted time and called!)

That sucks. Plain and simple.

Just don't cough up. Close your paypal/ebay account. Don't pay.

If it was me I wouldn't refund on principle. The guy bought an item sold 'as is' with no guarantee that it would work on arrival, it worked and then stopped working and the guy wants a refund? I'm sorry but you shouldn't have to refund when you clearly stated that the item was as is with no guarantee.

Send him a dodgy cheque. Make it out to Scammy McScammerson.

Regarding the paypal holding money thing, happened to me once when I was selling my 160GB iPod. They held my money for over 3 weeks longer than they should have. The buyer received the item within 5 days and left me a positive feedback, yet paypal held my payment for 3 extra weeks. I needed that money to pay bills. I emailed them several times over the matter and all I got was a "high risk items payment withheld" generic message.

It's utter shit what ebay puts sellers through and then ass rapes you final valuation fees.

Seriously, fuck ebay. Find another auction site, or just list in your local newspaper/post office. Ebay is the domain of scammers and chinese etailers now.

NEVER tie your paypal account to your bank account. Only put money in the account when money needs to be there.

This reminds me that I got scammed a few months back, sold a Wii over Paypal/Craigslist and sent it out before "completely" getting my money. I just checked my account and $400 is still sitting there, pending. I sent another email to paypal for the hell of it, but I've given up on the damn issue (it's been since January and I was sending out numerous emails, calling them, etc).

So yeah, Paypal sucks.

They *take* the money from your account. They don't rely on you to pay it yourself. It fact, they take the money as soon as the investigation starts - and will only refund it if you win the claim.
