Ah, well to clarify I can blast through VI in less than 20 hours. Whenever I played VII I got caught up grinding or playing minigames or Chocobo raising nonsense. I don't know how necessary any of that is, but the rewards always seemed to make the game easier in the long run.

I don't know the "ins-and-outs" of VII like I do VI basically.

Why force yourself to play a game when you know you don't like it?
My hate for it is pretty exaggerated to be honest. I just think its the weakest FF game I've played for sure. III, IV, V, IX, X, XII - I find all of these games to be superior.

I want to play through it so I can form a full opinion of the game and its place in the series. It's not bad enough to justify abandoning, and theres a lot of history behind it. I'm just not convinced it's held up very well.

I dunno, that makes sense... but the opinion you form might be skewed if you are dreading the game before each boot up. The downsides will start to become what stands out most, and the good things about the game will be "tolerable". At least, thats how it always is for me.

Ah, it is the total opposite for me (I've played through the entirety of VII more than half a dozen times).

Making the game easier in the long run is lame though! :P Most FF games are already easy without grinding.

I had a friend who found a way to farm levels like mad in IX (You pop out on the world map on this little cliff, and there is a thunder dragon there at a much higher level than you. He cast reflect, and farmed like 20 levels)... and he got bored of the game and never finished it

Mother on Famicom.

The previous owner had a level 99 save file that I'm screwing around with. Then I'll play for real. I love this game. It has probably my second favorite Famicom title screen theme ever, after Metroid.

Oh, and I thought this game had a run button?! Is that only in the EarthBound Zero version?

I am playing Final Fantasy X International PS2, Dragon Quest VII PSX, Soukaigi PSX, and Final Fantasy VIII PSX. I am also playing some others but they are on hold.

Qragon Quest VII is hard and Soukaigi is poorly designed but im trying to play it anyway. I am liking FF 8 and FFX International...I need to find the legit version of FFX I and I need to play my FF8 import.

I hope to find some tales of games as they are my RPG series of choice and lots of good imports there from them.

That's EarthBound Zero only. Interestingly, when they ported it to GBA they used the EarthBound Zero release, rather than the original Mother, so it also includes the US edits (like the smoking crows no longer smoking).

Ah thanks...

Isn't EarthBound Zero actually a prototype of what was intended to be an NES game, not a typical ROM hack?

I have played the GBA version of Mother but not to completion. I'll have to look for those crows next time I play.

That's correct. They were all set to release Mother as EarthBound (and you can see translated screenshots in one of the older Nintendo Powers) but then they backed out because they thought the SNES would completely overshadow it, especially with it being a quirky RPG when they hadn't really entrenched themselves in the US like they started to do in the SNES era. So the prototype cart got acquired by someone and when the rom community found out they raised money to buy the rights to dump the cart off him. So the extent of the post-dump hacking done was to make it EarthBound Zero to avoid confusion and to prevent the copy protection from screwing you over when run on an emulator.

I have that issue!

Nintendo Power was such a tease back then. Just flipping through old issues the other day I found articles about Star Ocean, Tactics Ogre, "The 7th Saga II" (Mystic Ark), "Legend of the Fire Emblem" (one of the Super Famicom games, I forget which one), and more...

I'm still kinda shocked that neither one of the GBA Mother titles was localized.

I used to own an import of Mother 3 GBA....that game was pretty good. Honestly it deserves a localization. its very very good and so is the humor.
