I dunno, that makes sense... but the opinion you form might be skewed if you are dreading the game before each boot up. The downsides will start to become what stands out most, and the good things about the game will be "tolerable". At least, thats how it always is for me.

How on EARTH did VII take you 30 more hours than VI!? VII is a 40-45 hour game!
Ah, well to clarify I can blast through VI in less than 20 hours. Whenever I played VII I got caught up grinding or playing minigames or Chocobo raising nonsense. I don't know how necessary any of that is, but the rewards always seemed to make the game easier in the long run.
I don't know the "ins-and-outs" of VII like I do VI basically.
Ah, it is the total opposite for me (I've played through the entirety of VII more than half a dozen times).
Making the game easier in the long run is lame though!

Most FF games are already easy without grinding.
I had a friend who found a way to farm levels like mad in IX (You pop out on the world map on this little cliff, and there is a thunder dragon there at a much higher level than you. He cast reflect, and farmed like 20 levels)... and he got bored of the game and never finished it
