In Ecco the Dolphin (I grew up with the Genesis version) there are crystals called glyphs scattered throughout the oceans. They can hold cryptic messages and memories, possess "songs" that must be acquired to unlock new paths, give you invincibility, and other such mysterious things. A Key-Glyph is the type that holds a song needed to unlock a Barrier-Glyph.
The amount of personal meaning that the atmosphere, story, and symbolism of that game has for me is huge. Briefly though, I feel very connected to the ocean, have a fascination with space and time travel, and adore the concept of music as a sort of magic or tool (or both). Whether these fascinations predisposed me to loving this game or were generated by the game to begin with is a chicken-or-the-egg situation.
This username is a new one for me. It had been in my mind for a few years, but I'd never found a place to use it until now.
Also, reading through the early parts of this thread was amusing, given that many people have changed their avatars since they last explained them.
What's your username mean?
Re: Whats the meaning behind your avatar and or user name?
Regarding the big pile of awesome that is Ecco:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kk72RMv9d0s
That level and its music speak for themselves.
As for the topic (my old one from when I first joined is merged in here somewhere
), I've changed avatars and never actually explained my username.
So:
I've probably talked about it enough, but for anyone who doesn't know, my avatar is manga star Ranma Saotome, one of my favorite characters.
That particular image is his VS. picture from the SNES fighting game, Ranma 1/2 Super Battle.
My username is my initials, plus Junior. Simple.
Occasionally I wish I'd chosen something more creative, or at least one of my actual nicknames, but what do you do?

You sound suspiciously like another guy on this board...one that ends his username with a "25" that isn't me...

I see why you would say that.
Don't worry though, we're not the same guy. I'm much cooler than he is.

Mine was kind of a no brainer, as I'm very proud of my competitive fencing background.
And as for the 'Rurouni' part - well, anyone who knows their Japanese comic books probably gets it.
According to Rurouni Kenshin's author, Nobuhiro Watsuki, Ruro ni roughly translates as 'Wandering'. As somebody who's moved around quite a bit in the last 7 years, I felt it an appropriate compliment to my personality, as well as an homage to my favorite serialized manga/anime series.
I'm trying to rotate my avatar every 4 months or so.. Currently, it's Ice Man because my favorite season is winter, so I felt it appropriate!

Re: Whats the meaning behind your avatar and or user name?
Been a Megaman fan for 20 years, he was probably more iconic to me growing up as a kid than Mario and maybe even Sonic. I only owned Megaman 6 at one point, but every week my grandpa would rent an NES game for me and 99% of the time I was swapping out the Megaman games and playing them all the time.
As a kid I grew up loving Darth Vader, evil dudes, and badass anti-heroes like Protoman... so yeah, Protoman is amazing and I love the old Megaman games.
I just made up my username one day. Wanted to come up with some mythological God kind of goofy name or something and somehow it just came to mind out of nowhere. That and I like the letter X (Megaman X ... okay, no connection there but yeah), like often when I'd enter a name in for old games I'd just go with "X". So something starting with X is what I wanted and made that happen.
