Final Fantasy VII / VIII Remastered Twin Pack (European version) - Switch

This version seems to have the updates on the cart, unlike the North American version

Octopath Traveler II - Switch

I also got a copy of Paper Mario: The Origami King from Amazon, but I'm returning it. I ordered the North American version and they sent me the European version. There's no real difference between the two but I always collect North American unless there is a good reason to get another regional version of a game (like the Euro version of the FF VII/VIII Twin Pack mentioned above). I just like uniformity in my collection.

I'm trying to get all of the Final Fantasy games on the Switch, since I loved playing all of them up to FF XV, where I feel is where the franchise fell off a cliff. Even the XIII trilogy of games was better than FF XV. So I have an order for Final Fantasy XII from ebay that I'm waiting to receive in the mail. I want to get the Pixel Remaster collection, but it's a bit pricey everywhere I have looked so I might have to wait on that one. I may pick up Final Fantasy 9 next instead. It's sort of funny to have FF 7-12 on cartridges. Who would have dreamed of that years ago? It takes me back to when all of the FF games would come out on the SNES before migrating over to a Sony platform.

I was pretty impressed at the fact that developers got Hogwart's Legacy to run decently on the Switch, less impressed when I found out only part of the game is on the cartridge. Guess I won't be buying that one, might as well just get the digital version on the PS 5 if I feel a really strong need to play it. I've never been into Harry Potter though so I can probably skip it.

Anyone play the physical version of River City Girls 2 on the Switch? I know the cart is missing a few updates/patches, but does it still play well? I heard a number of complaints when the game came out on the Switch regarding performance issues. I don't really care if it's like locked at 30fps, I'm not one who obsesses over 60fps gameplay. I don't mind if that's the game's only issue.

First, I don’t think that FFVII/FFVIII received a NA release. I plan to import it at some point, and I’m torn between the PAL version and the Asian version. The PAL version’s a bit less expensive, but the spine text is centered. The Asian version’s in English and has the spine text aligned to the top, like NTSC releases. Decisions! Decisions! (Also, you should import the Asian version of Final Fantasty Pixel Remaster. It is much less expensive than the NTSC version.)

Also, for River City Girls, I imported the River City Girls 1-2 Collection. It is less expensive than either NTSC release and has both games on one cartridge.

You know what? You're right. I messed up in referencing a NA version of FF VII/FF VIII. It's actually the Asian release that asks for an update download for both games. Supposedly, the Euro release that I got (haven't opened it yet) has the updates already on the cart. That's why I chose it over the Asian one. So that's something to consider if that matters to you.

The RCG games are interesting. From what I have researched online, the Collection has the first game complete with updates on the cart. However, it has the base version of RCG 2 on it (version 1.0.0.0) while the RCG 2 North American solo release has version 1.0.1 on it. Ultimately though, both versions are still missing an update or two for RCG 2 to bring it up to the current version of 1.0.4, but it's one less missing update on the solo release. The Collection is a good deal though, like you said.

I really can't stand playasia. I keep trying to update my email address because the one I put in had a typo in it. They refuse to change my email until I receive a verification sent to my old email, which I can't do anything with because the previous email address never existed.

It's so infuriating.

On top of that they are supposed to have pre orders up for a physical release of Sea of Stars for Dec 7, yet every time I follow the pre order link it just takes me to the page for the game where there is NO OPTION to pre order it. WTF is wrong with this company?

I absolutely HATE playasia

Lately I feel like the best place to buy anything is ebay. These stupid companies like amazon and playasia can't seem to do anything right these days.

I had a chance to do a bit of game hunting in early November with my partner. We had a fun day of trekking around, going out for lunch, and doing a bit of shopping! The first two games I acquired on our day out together, and the later two I came across towards the end of the month.

Way of the Samurai (PS2) - I had read about this game in a RB article a while back and it was also recommended by our local PS2 enthusiast, Ack. I was in the mood for a shorter action game, so I jumped on it when I saw it. I've completed one of the paths/endings already, and have really enjoyed this one!

Final Vendetta (Switch) - After putting a good amount of time into other newer 2D beat 'em ups, I wanted to finally give this one a go. The game's a bit tough and short compared to the other recent releases in the genre, but still a fun romp, IMO.

Bomberman 64 (N64) - I'm a fan of the Bomberman series but haven't played much of the N64 titles, and want to finally give them a shot. During the holidays my family usually takes out the N64 for some four-player chaos, so I wanted to pick this up to introduce it into the mix and see if it would catch on. Unfortunately my sister and brother-in-law didn't really care for it (c'mon guys!), so looks like this will be mostly a single-player experience for now!

Castlevania: Circle of the Moon (GBA) - I'm a big GBA fan and have all of my original games on the console from the time of release CIB, so I usually try to pick up games on the handheld in that condition. This was a game I've been curious about for quite a while, so I'm glad to finally come across it! Also, I saw that Space Booger is a fan of this one, so that's a good sign!

I added Steel Empire for the Sega Genesis this Morning!

Recently, I have gotten into different shooters lately mostly because I have been playing them through MAME. However, it has been difficult finding easier ones or introductory ones because I am not great at them. Several months ago, I found a video about which shooters are a great place to start. Most of them were Japanese games or Steam Games or ones that I had never heard of until he mentioned Steel Empire. It was a game on my Genesis Wishlist that I had forgotten about. After trying it a few times, I realized that this was one that was easier than others. I could see myself getting into it and since it is not too expensive, I decided to finally bite the bullet and pick up a copy for myself.

Remember when I posted about snagging a deal on Super Bomberman R2 for Switch back around Black Friday? Damn thing STILL hasn't shipped and it still says it'll be here between the 8th and the 20th. But since today is the 8th and its almost 7pm it's safe to assume that it'll get shipped by this Monday at the earliest.

And stranger still, two other items I preordered in October that have been released have YET to be shipped out.

But yet all my other Amazon purchases have gotten here on time.

EDIT: since posting this one of the items shipped.

Awesome pick-up, Markies! Steel Empire is one of my favorite shooters on the Genesis. I'm in a similar position as you, as I enjoy shooters, but I'm not too good at them. Steel Empire is great for casual fans of the genre as the difficulty isn't too harsh and you get a lifebar, which gives you some breathing room. I like the fact there are two totally different vehicles to choose from, which adds some replayability. Also, it's pretty unique the game has a steam punk setting.

Hope you enjoy it!
