I wanted to hold off on buying any games for a bit and maybe wait for the holiday sale but I don't have patience for that and am downloading ARMA 2 so I can play some Day Z.

I can't wait to play my first pc exlusive!!

I also contacted amd about not getting a code for bf4 so hopefully I can get that from them and become a true pc gamer by complaining about origin  If I'm lucky hopefully they will throw in a never settle bundle code.

one thing I've learned w/ PC games is every single time I get impatient and buy something full price, it goes on sale next week and I feel sick. So... Arma III should be on sale next week. Maybe I'll play DayZ then.

Flexwood, you should grab the WB bundle, even for the minimum you get good games to try. I think for like five bucks you get 5-7 full games including the FEAR series. Well worth it man.

Anyone know or have any experience with these AMD APU's? This pre-built I have has one. Does anyone know if it will operate as a CPU only or does it demand to be used as video also? Hell is it even one chip? I need to research this thing. Gonna do a build and would like to re-use it.

I have not done a build in about ten yrs. Used to do these all the time, the marriage, kids and all that happened.

but you want to pick up arma 2 for day z.

Yea ps+ has definitely prepared me for the sale immediately following a purchase of anything but right now after getting this built I'm just so hyped that I had to get something I really wanted you know?

wclem yea I got that bundle last night from my laptop while my computer was on the fritz. I wish I could have gotten the ea bundle but I wasn't built at the time.

Indeed, I've had 2 or 3 times where I plugged in a new graphics card and it seemed to be plugged in all the way only to be greeted by sad mobo BIOS beeps. Then I'd push the card in again and get a second 'crunch' as it really seated itself a millimeter deeper and then everything was fine.

I just did my first personal computer overhaul (outside of work) in a long time last week.

Originally I grabbed a windows 7 hp on sale last year (i5 3rd gen, 8gb ram, 1tb hd, etc) and threw in my own power supply and ati 6850 in it.

A year later, the onboard audio and nic card started being flakey, audio eventually failed and nic card works once every 4 boots, ruled out drivers and other causes. Instead of buying a new audio card ( I was also looking at a much larger case than the cramped mATX case I already had) I tossed money at a gigabyte mobo and Antec Three Thousand Two case. Transplanted processor, heatsink, everything over and pc would power on for 2 seconds then turn off, and attempt to reboot itself.

After a couple hours or tearing it back down, going through it again I saw somewhere online that it was possible the specific revision of my mobo wasn't compatible with my cpu, even though it was advertised as working. I was starting to tear it down to return the mobo, then I look at the cpu socket. Something looked off. I took my camera, zoomed in and took a photo. A single pin was bent the wrong way. I carefully bent it back, voila! I booted it up to my existing Windows 8 install and with a flash drive, updated some drivers and all was well. The Bios had been corrupted as well in the process, but the board had a backup bios that it restored from.

I look forward to add more things to my "fresh start"!

Looking for some feedback on this. Am I going underpowered, or not looking to the future. What should I change out and why? Do you think it will give me some life or is it a clunker?

It's a good budget build, but like any in that category, it's a question of how strict your budget is.

Personally, it'd take a very tight budget for me to not plunk down the extra $20 for an FX-6350. Tom's Hardware's budget AMD article illustrates how noticeable the extra cores can be when utilized.

If you could afford another $50-100 though, I'd start looking at i5s as well. Unless that breaks RAM compatibility or something.

AMD fanboy for a long, long time. Is that gonna cause and issue with that motherboard? Or, should I buy something a little higher in quality, price? Recommendation?
