Found and attempted dungeon 3. Don't really have time right now to put in a serious try, but I'm still pretty bad at this game. Might not even have time to finish before classes resume at this rate.

I voiced my objections here. The problem isn't the controller, but the way the game handles moving you in relation to obstacles and the alignment of your weapons. Note I still only had the short sword at the time.

I can see where you're coming from, especially with the off alignment sword, but I got over that pretty quickly.

Anyway, I've been playing Ax Battler: Legend of Golden Axe today, and it's about as bad as I expected. It's not unplayable, but it IS incredibly unpolished and the difficulty feels a little cheap. I reckon I'm about half way through, I'm a bit stuck at the moment though. Either way, I hope to finish this soon, because it's boring.

I've been playing the game a little each day after work and finally had the chance to really sit down with it for a few hours today. Still haven't had to use a guide or save states or anything and have completed the seventh palace, though it took me many hours to get to this point. I actually spent most of my time looking all over for the palaces, which always seem to be tucked somewhere I'll walk around repeatedly without actually walking onto the correct screen.

The hardest bit of the game so far was definitely the sixth palace. The seventh felt like a cakewalk after that. Thankfully there was a shortcut because I died at that freaking boss a whole bunch of times due to my impatience.

I am still really enjoying this game, and find it relaxing to just lose myself in the world. I'm genuinely excited about the item I found in the last palace because it will let me explore a bunch of the map I haven't yet, including an area I've been wondering about since around the start of the game.

You mean the Magic Balloon? Does anyone KNOW what that item is supposed to do? It just brought up a mini map for me....

If that is used as a method of travel, I'd love to have had KNOWN that

I finished Ax Battler: The Legend of Golden Axe today, and my final opinions are thus: Don't play it!

It's not that it's terrible (although it's certainly NOT good, but there are so many little frustrations when playing that you feel could've been cleaned up if they'd had more time or more staff (the end credits were literally 7 names long). It reminded me of Zelda II and Actraiser, but it very much felt like a bad fake, rather than it's own game. The difficulty was all over the place, the level design was slightly lacking and often a little unfair and the enemies were repetitive. If all these had been addressed even a little bit, it would've been a fun game. It only took me a couple of hours to beat total, and I reckon it'd have only been 1 hour or so had I not died quite a lot, but I'm glad it was so short because I sure am sick of playing it
