If any one remembers, I posted that I found a really cool shop called Record Reserve in East Northport and took a trip there. That guy had ALL vinyl, and a very nice selection. But it's like a 45 minute trip for me, so I wanted to find something closer. Long story short, I went "vinyling" with my friend today.
Record Stop
45 Ramsey Rd
Shirley, NY 11779
631-504-6311
I figure since there's a few of us that live around here I'd post the address for any one that's interested. It's recommended. The guy had a LOT of stuff in there, and it's not all vinyl. He had a TON of CDs, a decent amount of DVDs and a good amount of bootleg stuff. I mainly focused on looking at the vinyls though. He had a good selection of new stuff (new pressings), and of course a large selection of used stuff. It was pretty well organized, but he also had something like 100 or 200 vinyls that came in and have yet to be sorted.
Here's what I got... Sorry for the crappy cell phone pic, I didn't realize how shitty it came out!
Boston Third Stage
Eagles One of these Nights
Eagles In the Long Run
Meat Loaf Bat out of Hell
The Doors Absolutely Live (not pictured)
Grand Total: $8.69
Yeah, that's right, $8.69 for $5 vinyls. I will most definitely be going back!
As I posted the other day, I wanted to get the Eagles albums on vinyl even though I plan on getting the CD box set from Amazon because I enjoy album art. These are two great examples. The Long Run is a gatefold. One of these Nights isn't, but it's embossed which is pretty cool. I really wanted the debut album in particular, like I said earlier, but I still got some other shops to check out and this one to go back to from time to time.
Also, I was standing in this music shop, looking at Eagle albums, and thinking of Luke.
I actually got Bat out of Hell because the artwork looked so awesome. I've only ever seen that on cassette, and it just looked fantastic that large. That, and, I was actually just thinking a few weeks back that I'd like to hear more Meat Loaf other than the 2 songs you hear on the radio.
My mom was telling me a while back that she had The Doors Absolutely Live back when, lent it out to a friend and never got it back. She's a fan of the Doors. She told me about this live album and how Jim Morrison reads some poetry on it, so I've been keeping an eye out for it. So that was a total score.
I went to this other place called Patricio Records in Patchogue, and it was a total waste of time. There were a few shelves of CDs, but they looked like CDs you'd find at the counter at a CVS or similar. The rest of the store looked like a dollar store. We actually walked past it and couldn't find it at first because there was all this weird shit in the front window. Not what you'd expect a place called "Patricio's Records" to look like. But on the bright side, we did find this little shop called "Mother's Movies" which was a neat little shop.
Anyway, I've got three other places to check out on my list, so I'll report back on them. One of the three is actually another place called Record Stop, so I'm assuming it's the same owner but second location. What's cool is that the first Record Shop can be on my way to the second, so I can hit up both in one run.
