Re: Nintendo: Project Cafe - Wii U
Looking at the pictures and the name change, does anybody else feel like this is more like a second generation Wii, rather than a full-blown successor? I mean the console itself looks like a sleeker Wii - no drastic departure in the design department. I realize under the hood it's much more impressive, and the controller is much more tech-happy, but still it looks barely different from a standard Wii. Even the name, 'Wii U' suggests it's just "Wii 1.5".. I don't know, just my opinion.

Re: Nintendo: Project Cafe - Wii U
^ very true.. Nintendo does have a tendency of surprising the hell out of consumers once the new tech is in their hands!
Re: Nintendo: Project Cafe - Wii U
Well, the hardware is vastly improved and there is a completely new, unique controller. What's the harm with having the option for backwards compatibility?Rurouni_Fencer wrote:Looking at the pictures and the name change, does anybody else feel like this is more like a second generation Wii, rather than a full-blown successor? It's like going from the Game Boy Advance to the DS. Completely new system and controller, but can do everything the previous system could as a bonus.

Using the Wii name again was a marketing decision. It works for "PlayStation" and "XBOX" it'll work for "Wii". It also worked for "Game Boy" among others.

Re: Nintendo: Project Cafe - Wii U
My gripe initially is only that it appears only like a remodeled Wii. It looks basically the same, (minus the controller,) and the name doesn't let on that it's the next-gen successor.Inazuma wrote:Well, the hardware is vastly improved and there is a completely new, unique controller. The DS looked drastically different from the GBA and SP. Hell, the SP was a remodel and it looked vastly different than it's older brother the GBA.

Re: Nintendo: Project Cafe - Wii U
Make the screens compatible with GameCube games that used the Game Boy Advance as a controller (Zelda: Four Swords Adventures, Pac-Man Vs., Animal Crossing, Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles, etc.), and I will be sold.
I only hope that they come out with a controller that's like a "Classic Controller Pro". I like handles on my controllers.
Speaking of which, why haven't they done this with handhelds yet?

Re: Nintendo: Project Cafe - Wii U
I really hate the name, but then Ninty have never been that great at naming things I dont think.
Also, if they are going to base console design on the wii why the hell did nobody on the team say "You know that flap on the front really breaks the clean lines and people dont normally swap sd cards all that often, why dont we put it on the side somewhere"
Other than that it looks pretty cool, proper HD graphics, a cool new controller, and it would seem fully backwards compatible with the wii and all the accessories that we've already bought for that. I've only had a brief go on a 3DS but I was impressed with the analog nub thingy and the new controller seems to have 2 off them.
The line up of games is small atm, but there are a decent choice of 'core' games that the wii has been left on, so that looks really positive to me.

Apparently the console will work with all of the wii's controllers, so its up to the devs to make it compatible with their games.YoshiEgg25 wrote: I only hope that they come out with a controller that's like a "Classic Controller Pro". I like handles on my controllers.
