Yeah, they've really pigeonholed themselves. I'd be willing to bet some of those designers are sick to shit of making RPGs, and could make some kick ass stuff if they were given the chance.Mozgus wrote:I grew up with a copy of King's Knight. They are very talented but working on the same type of game over and over must numb the creativity and passion. Two very important factors to making great games. Have Squareenix's RPGs have been sucking lately or is just me? They feel generic and dry, like no name cereal. It almost tastes as good as the name brand, but somethings different and not in a good way.Krooze L-Roy wrote:Yeah, they've really pigeonholed themselves. Well, Square DID release The Bouncer... How did that settle for ya?
Re: Radiant Silvergun vs. Einhander
I kind of liked it when it was released. I don't think its aged well though.marurun wrote:Well, Square DID release The Bouncer... How did that settle for ya?

Meh, I really dislike Einhander, I appreciate RSG but it doesn't do much for me. Beyond the things I don't like about the games themselves, Einhander seems to have found itself a place of love between square fans and less shmup oriented crowds, and RSG gets called the best thing ever so much that everyone assumes they should love it. Neither are outright bad games, they're both far from it. But I see both games as extensions of the genre more than (...not sure of the best term to use here...) core shooting games.
But yeah, I voted for RSG because I dislike it far lass than Einhander.

What makes them "extensions" rather than "core"? And what titles do you consider "core"?

"better" is such a subjective term. I like the feel of Einhander and has a lot more fun with the game. RS is a brilliant shmups technically but isn't all that fun when I play it. Just my take.

I just couldn't get into Einhander. It's not a bad game I just think it's a bit over hyped by the Square worshipers.
Re: Radiant Silvergun vs. Einhander
Just because the main parts of the games aren't so much shooting as it is managing the weapons and in the case of rsg weapons management and scoring go together.marurun wrote:What makes them "extensions" rather than "core"? And what titles do you consider "core"?
