Yeah, that's pretty much what I was trying to say. Apparently, some people on this thread just don't get that. The strengths and limitations of a control scheme must factor into a game's design and quite honestly I think RE 4 on the Wii should have been made harder to compensate for the quicker and faster aiming. I've heard people complain about Metal Gear Solid:Twin Snakes being two easy due to the inclusion of Metal Gear Solid 2's controls.Ack wrote:Actually, I think he means it removes some of the tension. Part of the Resident Evil experience(and survival horror as a whole up to a point) has been sluggish controls. Not because they're great controls, but because that having to take a few seconds more to get away can really up the tension of the player. If Resident Evil 4 is easier to control, it means some of that feel is gone, and the experience as a whole is less scary.
Don't take that to mean I'm defending the old controls. They had their share of problems. But I think that's the point he was driving at.
I'm not saying the game sucks on the Wii, but when I see how quickly a player can aim and hit someone in some youtube vids, it seems kind of wrong. You know part of the strategy of selecting weapons was their accuracy, and I've heard people say it's a non-issue now given how easy it is to aim on the Wii. I think the Wii controls are TOO good for this game. If it was a fast paced shooter it'd be a better fit since you would NEED to be able to aim quickly, but there is a limit to how fast some enemies can move in RE4 and I believe it was designed that way with the original controls in mind. Now, it's like they don't have a chance. Far too easy to get head shots or hit someone in the knee too. Sure, RE 4 is not the hardest game in the world as I'm sure Mozgus would agree, but it didn't need to be made even easier. Capcom just wanted to pump out another version of the game to make more money.
I'm sure the game is still fun on the Wii and having the superior Gamecube graphics combined with the PS2's widescreen option is nice. I just think the game has lost a little something on the Wii. I think a first timer would be better served playing the GameCube or PS2 version(despite the downgraded graphics) then grab the Wii edition later to just play for fun and enjoy the better visuals(GC graphics+widescreen).
Just my opinion, I think I'll think I'll drop this topic now
