I play all kinds of brass instruments and have produced electronic music since age 15 (30 now) Played with a bad ass Drum Core on Contra bass tuba. DJ'd when the rave scene got big in the 90's and started producing dance tracks to play live. Liked playing in bands so I mixed the two.
My current band is really weird and hard to explain to most people. We have 3 people. 2 of us compose and perform electronic dance music. Live we used all hardware sequencer and synths until 2007 when we moved to a blend of Ableton live software and midi sync'd hardware synths. The 3rd guy is a scratch DJ that uses Serato Scratch (crazy vinyl-MP3 control interface) to manipulate parts from our songs using turtablism
We played from 2004-2006 together until the second composer went to Alaska. We then toured separately playing live. Played up and down the West Coast of America as well as Tokyo and kansai region of Japan during 2007 using the live sets we had devised.
Here's an old but solid recording of a live set from 2006ish I think :

We got to play a shit load of awesome shows including opening for big acts and doing some Warped Tour spots. The inevitability of personal lives set it, and I felt like I was pulling most of the weight for the band. There's was also money issues between the guitarists and the drummer. I decided to quit and they replaced me with another bass player, only lasting six more months as band. I'm only really friends with the drummer still. It's a shame, because I feel we had the potential to go places.
It's been a few years, but I'm considering trying to start another band. Maybe a sludge band or something. I just don't know if it would be worth it now. I've started my own life in the last couple years, about to get married and get a house and all. Maybe that's just what growing up is.
By the way, the pics are not of me. They took down all of the pics where I had played bass after I quit.

real short stubby dude with a THICK new york accent who booked shows around orlando/CFL for a few years. dicked over a band on a good amount of money or something then split. i was just curious because i used to be pretty good friends with him when he lived in indy.Flak Beard wrote:Sounds familiar. Pretty cool stuff. I used to be really into (still am too!) post-rock stuff like Tristeza, Pullman and Tortoise. Kinda has elements of each. I like the 16-bit break down part on Douglas Fir, cool trasition.Adderall wrote:I play with some friends on the weekends. Just silly stuff for right now.
