I'd prefer if it didn't. He's gone around the bend a bit in the past decade.Sarge wrote:True. Re: Games NOT Beaten 2017
I just finished modern Sonic Seaside Hill after retrying it three times and losing like 20 lives
To say that I hate this horribly designed stage is an understatement
I don't understand this game's design. It feels like it wants you to go, go, GO!!!! Yet after numerous cheap hits, traps, bottomless pits, and confusing level design I find myself wanting to inch through levels as slowly and cautiously as possible. It's like the game is supposed to be about momentum but the level design just doesn't support that.
I feel like Sonic Generations has an identity crisis about what kind of game it's trying to be. It's like when you get to some of the really precision based platforming bits, and the game's slippery controls just don't feel up to the task (a problem I didn't have with the Genesis games).
And using that seaside hill level as an example of this game's bizarre design, like halfway through the level it suddenly decides it wants to be an underwater level. In fact, the whole stage seems longer than it needs to be as I kept wondering how much longer until to I got to the end. There was something one of the designers for the original Halo said about levels overstaying their welcome that I think applies here.
In Sonic 1 on the Genesis, you had levels specifically designed as water levels. That game had focus. Seaside Hill with modern Sonic in Generations is an on land level for half the stage, then decides it wants to be underwater, then the last stretch of the stage has you racing through some tunnels with a bunch of spiked balls bouncing around that you have to avoid. I wish this stage could find a singular theme and stick to it
Half the time I feel like I don't know what's going on in this game or that I'm not even in control of Sonic. It's so chaotic and messy
I hate being so negative, as I loved Sonic back in the day
Is Colors really that good? People seem to talk it up a lot

I've beaten Colors on both Wii and DS. I enjoyed the DS version, but I loved the Wii one. Colors on Wii is the best Sonic game since the Genesis originals. I think it's absolutely fantastic. But a lot of people don't like it. Everybody has their tastes I suppose.Juan Aguacate wrote:Is Colors really that good? People seem to talk it up a lot
PLAY KING'S FIELD.

The irony is that once you start posting on Racketboy.com forums, you discover that even the 2D Sonic games are extremely divisive.

I think I might throw in the towel with this game, after completing two horribly designed, obnoxious challenge levels that play more like shitty sports games than Sonic games...and than playing that complete mess of a boss fight with Perfect Chaos
I hate this game with every fiber of my being.
The camera is awful
The controls are awful
The physics are awful
The level design is awful
The bosses are awful
The challenges are awful (fuck Sonic's friends, I wish he didn't have any)
This game is literally bad in every way possible
In fact, I think the only good thing to come out of Sonic Generations is that Shia Labeouf commercial
Note to Sega:

The O-G's Tails, Knuckles, and CD Amy were cool. I wish it stopped there.
But um really yeah, when I play Sonic 1 and CD I don't miss Tails or Knuckles at all.
