While the first game on Genesis is arguably skippable (I happen to like it, but many don't), X-men 2: Clone Wars is awesome and you should give it a shot.
I loved the first X-Men game on Genesis. I haven't played it in many, many years. But I know I enjoyed the heck out of it then. The animations were great. Wolverine and Gambit looked so awesome.
I agree with you dude. Loved it as a kid and still enjoy it now. But, people complain. *shrug*
I'm just saying that x-men 2 is outstanding and not to be missed. If someone only plays one of the two games, I feel confident it should be the sequel.

I'm now feeling like I'll try the first one. I'm not expecting a masterpiece but I've heard enough people ragging on it for being insanely difficult due to poor design to keep me away. But I've always thought that it *LOOKS* really great so if I just play it for large colorful X-Men sprites and don't plan on beating it maybe I'll have enough fun for it to be worth my while.
Oh, this thread also deserves a mention of the absolute worst comic book game I've ever played: QUESTPROBE FEATURING SPIDER-MAN (there was also one with the Hulk and another with the Human Torch and Thing but I've never played those).
It's an 8-bit computer graphical adventure game that exemplifies the absolute worst of the genre. You're given no obvious hints, you can end up in situations that render the game unwinnable, the villains all just kind of stand around in your way. The story's pure nonsense too: Spider-Man has to collect magical gems and... that's it.
This just makes me think of another Spider-Man game - Spider-Man: Web of Fire for 32X. Does anyone really like that game? Looking at footage on YouTube makes it look PRETTY ROUGH. And reviews make it sound pretty "meh at best." And yet the prices it fetches on eBay are insane. I mean, sure, it's rare and having a complete 32X collection is kind of cool but I don't get how people throw several hundreds of dollars at that cart.

The first one is mediocre. X-Men 2: Clone Wars is great. It's the best old-school X-Men game sans the arcade.
Yeah, Doomsday is the only opponent able to beat Supes down with punching. Supes is much more vulnerable to magic and mental attacks, and armor does dick against that.
