Netflix developing live action Legend of Zelda series

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

I don't mean this as an offence to you or your opinions so don't take it as that, but that article is so stupid it hurts.

You could replace reasons 3 to 5 with "the world might end tomorrow" and you'd get the same result

And for Zelda not having a plot and link not being a character, that's the beauty of it.

You have a mythology with some basic pillars for reference, and everything else can be manipulated to fit the writer's needs. Same for link, what more do you need than a character who is defined by his humble beginnings, ability to overcome any challenge, and courage.

I for one am very excited for this, and it has to be live action

I'd be a lot more interested in a Metroid show. Feels like it would translate a lot better, visually anyway.

I personally think the Nintendo property that would work best for tv or film would be F-Zero.

Good writers can make anything good, great.

Look at MINIONS. The characters don't even have lines yet the writers make them spectacular. And we were really close to having a "The Sims" movie. Cross your fingers and hope for the best.

Luke and Apple make great points.

Honestly I'm rooting for them to use the source material for something very different. I only find the Marvel/DC stuff interesting because I don't have any contact with the source material. If I did I would probably find the Marvel stuff really boring since I'm not that much of a fanboy to just want movie versions of the original thing.

My dream is a Super Mario Movie where Mario is a little kid, son of a plumber, who enters an escape fantasy world of his and turns into a grown man when he eats magic mushrooms

They shouldn't make a movie about Legos either. I mean Legos, much like Link, have no voices. Legos are made by a toy company, just like Legend of Zelda is made by a game company. Legos are interpreted by your imagination, just like the archetypical story premises of Legend of Zelda. That's why they will never make an awesome, heartwarming movie based on Legos.

Making a movie based on Legos was a blank slate. Where doing a show or movie based on an existing property carries baggage. Not that they can't scrap everything and start from scratch, but that of course leads to the likely possibility of angering fans, their built in audience.

Well.....how big is the Zelda fanbase anyway? Like globally it's 4 million? Around 2 of them in the US? I don't think the fanbase is big enough to support an expensive production. Though they'll probably use it to spread the word.
