Do you read ebooks?

I don't feel a strong desire for an eReader. The majority of the books I buy are only available in physical format. Anything I want to read but don't have a desire to own (which is almost everything not related to a few esoteric subjects) I'd prefer to just get a copy of from the library.

What I'd really love out of an e-book reader are quality reference books! Like the complete Oxford English Dictionary or Encyclopedia Britannica. Being able to carry both of those in complete forms in one small device without spending many hundreds of dollars would totally justify an e-book reader for me! I know it's possible! I just don't know why it hasn't happened yet.

e-ink was a great creation that's for certain. I can take all day on a LCD just fine, but it is nicer to read on one of those as it feels like a book even with the paperwhite with a light glow on it.

I was using a kindle keyboard since that came out as a christmas gift but upgraded to the paperwhite a few months ago as I lucked into one super cheap with coupon at half price books. When I got the original kindle I got rid of most of my paper books, space wasters and super heavy so it was good I did it before I moved 2 years ago. I've kept some indiana jones paperbacks, sam & max, Bone, and a few other items that never went to kindle. I also have a couple hundred manga books too, don't see ditching them as I get them second hand cheap.

I am trying to read more eBooks, but it is hard.

The idea of purging my physical library is non-existent since I regularly go back to many of my books as part of writing/research/prep/etc. The problem with eBooks is that jotting notes in them is just a pain in the ass and so much more time consuming and overwrought than using a pen in the margin. Same with flipping through them quickly, using the index in a meaningful way, etc - these are just so much better done with a physical book.

Basically I have turned to eBooks for some fiction and for non-fiction that I don't intend to notate as I read. I read them on the Kindle App for the iPad.

Scribbling in books is evil. I hate highlights, underlining, notes, circles, stars, anything written on a page. That's my biggest pet peeve with books. eBooks get rid of that.

Though since you're one of those blasted book defacers you might be interested in this: Kobo might produce an ereader with a writable screen for notes/annotations.

The books I make notes and what not in are solely those that I intend to use for my academic work (teaching, writing, etc.). I own the books, go back to them with regularity, and buy them for this purpose. They aren't textbooks. When I eventually pass them on to the next person in some distant age, they will likely go to other academics/students who would likely appreciate the margin notes (as I do when I pick up old used academic books).

I feel the same about writing in books. It pissed me off so bad in college when we'd have to go buy books. The new ones were so expensive since it was a trapped market there, but then you had these huge piles of used books for so much less but on occasion you couldn't avoid one someone didn't jack up with a marker and pen and it's such a distraction. Just take notes on paper, shove it in the book if you need to, but don't write on it.

It's all about finding the previous owner's doodles in your used books. Esp if they are inappropriate.

I use an ereader now and I like its convenience. I can read on that at home, and if I am away, I can pull up the app on my phone and continue where I left off. I find them more comfortable to hold than a book.

If I was doing research and a lot of page flipping, I would definitely prefer a physical book.

I read books on an e-ink kindle. I love the library digital check out for this as well. The e-ink screen really is easier on the eyes than I thought it would be.

For comics (both comixology purchases and marvel unlimited), I use my ipad air. The retina screen is so sharp and crisp, it really does the art justice and no worries about damaging a comic or fooling with bags and boards.

I just don't have the room for comics and books anymore, and like others have said, nothing beats having a whole collection at your fingertips in the space that 1 book would take up.

More on topic, yeah I got the KFHD. Read a few videogame books on it so far.
