I got an excellent deal on both my VB and the adapter for it back in the day.

I took a gamble on an untested Virtual Boy imported from America for £65 + postage. It was quite a lot to pay for a system that might not work. When it arrived, the stand was perfect, the goggles were still attached and everything looked pristine. It even came with 2 controller for no apparent reason.

What it didn't have was a battery pack for the controllers and the plug (which was a US plug, so needed an adapter) didn't work.

I tried to by a battery pack from a guy on eBay, which would've cost about £25. When he found out the issue, he offered to sell me a modified adapter instead for £10. It has a built in step down converter and a UK 3 prong plug, and it works perfectly.

All 6 of the games I got worked perfectly too - 5 of the 6 came with manuals (no manual for Mario Clash). The one game I got with the system that I no longer own was Virtual Baseball. A boring version of a boring sport.

Ive got Vertical Force and Mario Tennis, and want Mario Clash and Teleroboxer. I also have a spare controller and a power supply from when I bought a second VB that was dead.

Mario Clash is my favorite game on the console and one I wish would get remade with coop. It is the arcade Mario Bros with really clever twists.

When I was a kid, my oldest brother had rented a Virtual Boy through Blockbuster and we got to play Mario Clash, which I thought did a great job at showcasing what the system could do visually, even though the game itself is quite basic. I really enjoyed that game.

I don't own a Virtual Boy, (I know, big surprise.) but if I were to start collecting handheld shit I'd go VB. Sure I could fire up RedDragon on my PC, but it wouldn't be anywhere near the same as putting my face inside the goggles.

Yep, that neck and eye strain is a priceless experience for VB users - it just wouldn't be the same without it!

Definitely get around to finishing Wario-Land, several times. It's got multiple endings depending on how much loot you pick up and how fast you beat the game, so it's pretty groovy. Teleroboxer is really sweet. One of two games to actually make use of that second D-Pad! And believe it or not, I think V-Tetris is the preferred version of all the Tetris games on VB, but that's just opinion.

I hope you're digging the VB! That sounds like a pretty really awesome Christmas gift. Whoever got it for you deserves a peck on the cheek, or something.

And I know someone said they were looking for in-depth reviews of games.. If I had the time, I would. I know Nintendolife does pretty good reviews for nearly all 22 games on the system. I really disagree with about half of them, though.
My girlfriend of two years got it for me. She's pretty god damn awesome. We go all out when we get gifts for each other.
After I opened it up, I got more excited than the N64 kid for a little while, then I thought for a minute and asked her, "How much did you spend on this thing?" She said, "...Don't worry about it! :)"

The console itself works perfectly. Zero problems. The image comes in crystal clear. The one she got also came with a power supply, working stand, controller, Wario Land and Mario Tennis. Best girlfriend I could have ever asked for.

That's really cool of her. Hell, I don't even know where to find a VB flash cart! She sounds like a keeper. :)

That's a sad story. Apparently the dude who was making the repros was making them for a tiny community of VB lovers, but swore that the day one of his carts landed on eBay, he was stopping. I guess it didn't take too long for one to end up on eBay (at around three times the price the fella was selling them for) and he's done making them.

http://www.vectrex.biz Richard's a great guy, very responsive and good to deal with. My FlashBoy+ sadly doesn't appear to work properly with saving (I've heard of it happening to a few people) but I honestly am not that bothered by it to ship it back to England to be fixed.

Anyway, chalk up another on the "Claims of headache/eyestrain is exaggerated" list. I've never had a problem. You feel ever so slightly spacy when you stop playing it, but that's mostly because of the semi-sensory deprivation you're doing with the foam goggle-type bit.

And for those looking to get into the VB, I wouldn't worry too much about the stand. I recently got a working one, but for years I didn't have a stand, I would just lay back on the couch and balance it on my face. Got a little bit annoying on the bridge of the nose, but a small piece of bubble wrap cleared that right up

I'm lucky though, I got mine long enough ago that I was able to order an AC Adapter Tap directly from Nintendo for pennies compared to its current price.
Gunning for a licensed NES NTSC-U set, follow the madness and poverty here!
Cheat sheet of my collection, always looking to increase it. 405/677 licensed games, 46/"95" unlicensed
