I am with you Ack! I enjoyed Golden Axe. It isn't perfect, by any means, but it has a different pace and flavor. I find that a lot of people let their preconceived notions of things really bog down their opinion of a game. For instance, with Golden Axe, it has two things going wrong for it. It is not a traditional Golden Axe game and it is not Street Fighter.Ack wrote:I don't own World Heroes Perfect but do own copies of Galaxy Fight, Golden Axe: The Duel, and Virtua Fighter Kids. VF Kids is a novelty, definitely, but it's a funny piece of obscure VF history that I love to pull out at parties, especially with friends who are fans of the series that don't know about it. Sure, it's not perfect, but I find it more playable than VF Remix for some reason(which I also own).
I have beaten Golden Axe: The Duel, and I don't think it's too hard when compared to the likes of things like WeaponLord. And yes, it is slow, but having played games like the first Samurai Shodown and Street Fighter 2: The World Warrior, I don't think that is automatically a bad thing. Is GATD a great fighting game? No, it's not. But it does things that I like and appreciate more than some other games that released around its era. Do I wish we had gotten Revenge of Death Adder? Oh Hell yes.
I suppose there is something that I should point out about my tastes in fighting games, and that is that I tend to be extremely forgiving of them and look for elements to enjoy in even some of the worst I've dealt with. I have played aquite a few, ranging from the cream of the crop to the absolute bottom of the barrel, and I've found ways to enjoy even some of the most mediocre titles. Please remember, I'm the most vocal guy here in supporting Shaq Fu.
And Golden Axe: The Duel is still far better than Battle Blaze.
That seems to always be what people look for, especially with the Street Fighter comment.
With Virtua Fighter Kids, it is definitely a novelty. Being a huge fan of the series, the only gripe I have is the reach of the characters.....stupid tiny hands and feet!
