Mario fans make up the largest contingent of Nintendo fans. You tend to see people who like Nintendo titles like Mario and then one or more other franchises.
Ok, to quote irixith:
I'd argue that they are producing what their audience wants. I see you're ragging on the NSMB franchise - what does Wii U have worldwide now, 5.7 million install base, of which a staggering 3.67 million have purchased NSMBU.
My point is if they're producing exactly what their audience wants (we're assuming that's Mario), that audience is not so large because they're not carrying the console. Using irixith's number, 5.7 million install base, if the Wii U lasts as long as the Gamecube it will sell about the same amount as it did assuming sales don't either really pick up or slow down further.
There's no denying Mario is Nintendo's flagship series but I don't necessarily think he sells that many consoles alone. Anecdotally, I didn't buy Gamecube for Super Mario Sunshine, I didn't buy Wii for Super Mario Galaxy, and I didn't buy Wii U for NSMBU. Mario's all right in my eyes but save for a select few of his games, I think there are better 3D platformers out there. Usually there's enough other games on a Nintendo system to keep me occupied without even really bothering with Mario.
pepharytheworm wrote:You haven't heard about "X"? Thats pretty much your Xenoblade 2.
I've heard of that, but I haven't been hearing anything lately and there's no release date. Not to imply that it's even remotely in the same category as Half Life 3, but I don't put too much stock in games until there's some concrete material.
pepharytheworm wrote:Perfect Dark would be hard to do with Microsoft owning Rare, which was't a one off ip. Perfect Dark Zero was a 360 launch game and they released the original on xbox live.
I didn't literally mean "I want Perfect Dark 2 on Wii U," I was giving that and Eternal Darkness as examples of one-off Nintendo exclusive games. I'd like to see more original IPs from Nintendo, I didn't mean I wanted sequels to what are currently one-off games.
Also as far as Nintendo's concerned, Perfect Dark was a one-off IP. And it should have stayed one, PDZ wasn't too hot.
pepharytheworm wrote:Also Hyrule Warriors should be a some what tide over for Zelda U. Didnt a Zelda on the 3ds come out somewhat recently? People bored aleady? LOL.
Portable Zelda and console Zelda play very much differently. And Hyrule Warriors is supposed to be like Dynasty Warriors combined with Zelda, not an actual main series entry.
pepharytheworm wrote:People also thought Earthbound wouldn't make it out and it did, so who knows maybe we might get Mother 3. Especially with GBA games coming to WiiU.
With Earthbound the main issue was Nintendo feeling like they'd get sued for some of the content in the game. Mother 3 would be a much bigger project, since it hasn't been localized. I mean, technically it could happen, but there's no reason right now to assume it will. They've given absolutely no indication that that is the case.
MrPopo wrote:Sounds to me they are listening to their fans. Just not everything. Nintendo as a developer is pretty stretched thin right now.
I realize they can't do everything we want, but I don't get the impression they're listening to their fans at all. Heck, they're not even listening to the money.
