It isn't. It's quite great on the XBOX.

Oh god i love Shenmue so much.

My favourite DC memory comes from Shenmue 2, but, er, i was actually playing it on Xbox 360 thanks to the wonder of backcompat, as this was in-between DC-owning phases:

My job as a scientist had been dragging me down for some time. Having made the decision after a year of searching for something that would inspire me and that i could truly enjoy working in, i had opted to do a master's degree in Global Health. By summer 2011, i'd been accepted onto the course, finished my job, finished up a paper i had to submit for publication, and was ready to rock. Just two weeks of blissful downtime to go before my life started anew. And here was Ryo, arriving fresh off the boat in Hong Kong, meeting the locals, having his bag stolen by punks, and ready to kick some ass in a new and vast setting. So much to see and do, so many places to explore, and i had all the time in the world to do it. (Well, two weeks, but it felt like i had forever.) I'd played through the game on DC back in 2002 or so, but it had been so long that it felt fresh again. Even though DC was commercially dead by that time, its spirit still burned as brightly as ever.

1. My wife picked one up for me as an engagement present a few weeks after launch. Soul Calibur, Hydro Thunder, House of the Dead 2... OMFG, I really did have an arcade machine in my hands.

2. Then came crazy taxi, and I got blown away again.

3. My Mom proudly picking up my life-size space channel 5 standup from Babbages when they were done with it (before they turned to complete dicks about giving things away), because I was living 100 miles away from the store..

This is the last system I'll truly be excited about. And I've still got the "bad web browser disc" apology letter somewhere in my basement.. My biggest regret is NOT picking up a Kiosk from Babbages when Sega called it quits. $160 seemed like a lot for a 13" screen and a system I already owned...

So, my best memory of the Dreamcast is getting my VGA adapter and playing some Sega Rally 2 with one of my few friends that was a Dreamcast owner when it was released. I have never seen such elation in a person playing a retro game, except when I booted up Sonic Adventure and let him play that too.

Also, the Dreamcast has arguably the best port of Crazy Taxi, and while I didn't play it there initially, I still think of the DC when I think of Crazy Taxi, which happens to be one of my favorite arcade games of all time. It's also home to Jet Grind Radio, which is basically just cool.

I guess even somebody who doesn't like the system that much like myself can't help but think of the thing fondly in memory. :)

Related: I remember when I was 7, my father asked me if I wanted the new Sega or the PlayStation 2 in the car. Ended up getting a PS2 at launch.

1. Playing through Shenmue for the first time.
2. Going online and doing Forest runs on Phantasy Star Online.
3. Playing Bomberman Online with my friends on my birthday, staying up til the early morning hours laughing so hard.
4. The experience of bringing one home shortly after the announcement of Sega's shift to software-only.

1) 2k2 sports series. These were revolutionary and are still comparable to sports games today!

2) I wasn't poor growing up, I had all I needed. But my family was never up to date on technology. For some reason, we had a low income but lived in middle/upper class neighborhood. So the kids I grew up with had a playstation while I was still playing Sega genesis. In 2001, I got a Dreamcast for $50 dollars at toys r us. I was finally up to date (for like a year, lol!), and I was kicking ass!

Best year of video games in my life!

3) my cousin having an entire trash bag stored with burned Dreamcast games for the family. My who family are Sega boys.

My favorite Dreamcast memory would have been the first time I played the demo disc that had Tony Hawk, Sonic Adventure, and Street Fighter on it. My dad bought the system and only every had The Ring and Resident Evil. He was very protective of his systems so we kids werent allowed to touch them without his supervision so I never played it I only watched. Well after about 6 months he had only turned it on a few times so he asked me if i wanted to trade. My ps1 for his Dreamcast. So I said yeah and I got the Dreamcast. I wasnt into horror games cause they scared me so I played that demo disk to death. I got very good at the warehouse stage on Tony Hawk cause that was the only game that you werent timed on your demo. Great memories. The Dreamcast is so awesome.
I am buying all Saturn games, PM me with your offerings and I will let you know if I need the game or not! (Everything must be CIB)

Currently trying to knock off all the sports games, would like to get them <$5 each! Of course if you would like to donate them I will gladly pay the shipping! :)

DC was the first and only console I ever bought while it was "new"

I sold damn near my entire collection of games at the time to buy a DC and a VGA cable. At the time, the graphics were astonishing (and still hold up pretty well).

Some years later it was still one of my favorite systems, and I've re-purchased nearly everything I sold to obtain that first dreamcast.

Best memories have to be the countless nights of Power Stone matches, Dead or Alive 2, and shmups. My God, the shmups

Need FreeMCboot? I'll install it on your PS2 Memory Card for free if you cover postage both ways.
Consoles: I have too much stuff
Arcade: No seriously, I have too much stuff. Someone grab a shovel and dig me out of my basement.

Space Channel 5. I just really found my groove with that game, pun intended. And it had such a fun, positive energy to it.

Sonic Adventure. The first game I played on the DC. I actually enjoyed all the cheesy vocal tracks at the time. The final battle against the water monster as Super Sonic was awesome

Jet Grind Radio - It was an oft frustrating experience, but it was so unlike anything I had played before. And again, the game just had a certain energy and attitude to it. That is something that is just unique to a lot of Sega games. They just have a certain "vibe" to them. The game seemed to so perfectly capture this feeling of teenage excitement and rebellion, which was great as I was rather young myself when I played it

Bangaio - Just addicting as hell, I couldn't stop playing it. I've always wondered how the N64 version compares

MDK 2 - Such a hilarious and weird game, too hard though. Still, the game made a lasting impression

Skies of Arcadia - I never actually played this on the Dreamcast. I played the Gamecube port. Still, it's one of my favorite rpgs of all time and it originated on the Dreamcast so I'm including it

Shadow the Hedgehog - Sega's done horrible things with this character, but he was pretty cool in his first game, which was Sonic Adventure 2 on the Dreamcast. His stages were fun and his race boss fight with Sonic was awesome with a cool soundtrack

Marvel vs Capcom - Two words. Onslaught Mode. That was awesome! Also, seeing as I didn't get a Saturn until some years later, this was really the first time I ever got to experience an arcade perfect Capcom fighter within the comfort of my own home. It was nice to play this without having to head to my local mall with a bunch of quarters

Crazi Taxi/Zombie Revenge - Lumping these together because I remember them both for the same reason. Playing both games made me feel like I was in an actual arcade even though I was playing them at home. So many DC games really brought that arcade experience home like no other console before it, including the Saturn.

The Dreamcast was also the last time I can say I was truly excited for a console launch. There was an excitement in the air when Sega brought this thing out

Too bad how things ultimately turned out
