Close, but this is a BROADCAST pilot not a PRODUCTION pilot like the Full House example. Being a broadcast pilot means they already have the cast down and have invested in atleast a few episodes (typically four to six). So if the show does not pick up soon it may end up as a partially told story, like Drive or Clerks the Animated Series. That said, the second episode will be the real tell. Over 12 million watched the pilot, and if they can keep those numbers, well it will keep going.

But yeah, a pilot is a litmus test for interest.

Besides a few exceptions (JOEY) most pilots do not reflect the show it will become.

Like I said, I am curious to what happens. But the similarities to the Global Frequency pilot are to ripe for jokes.

HuGe fan of Firefly, best sci fi show ever hands down.
Hearing that Joss did it, I must say I am disappointed.
You see the jokes coming a mile away.
Can't put my finger on it, but something is off. Also that 'cloned?' guy is suddenly a terrible actor. The script is ridiculous. The dialog is just weird and bad.
I'd give it, based on the pilot, a 5 stars out of 10.
just, WHY did they make this? What is the reason? I see no passion in the product, just terrible cliches. I guess it can only get better. Where's Nick Fury?

I seemed to enjoy it more than most of you. I'll say this though...

A lot of Whedon fans I've talked to are of the opinion that neither Dollhouse, Buffy, or Angel started out great. So this is typical Whedon. His shows usually take a little while to get going, but eventually become fantastic. In the case of Dollhouse though, that was mostly Fox's fault, not his.

But going with the Buffy and Angel examples, it usually takes a while for him to find his footing. Plus, he typically lays down a lot of foundations for big pay offs later. Obviously we all want to know about that Coulson/Tahiti thing. A lot of people will tell you that Angel starting getting really good towards the end of its first season, but was pretty aimless before that. Season 2 was stellar. A lot of fans actually think Buffy's first season was crap, but will rave about seasons 2 and 3 and 5.

Some of my other favorite shows are the same way. I love Nikita, and its brilliance started to show near the end of season 1 and it's been pretty consistently good ever since. Supernatural is a show I think got progressively better each season until it peaked in season 5. Not every show can be Breaking Bad, which has pretty much always been amazing and seems on track to have an amazing series finale too.

I'd rather a show start out slow and get better. The reverse of that leaves us with something like...Heroes. Ugh, what a mess that show became.

I'll be honest, I hated Dollhouse. There was a lot of promise there and very little delivery. And the overarcing plot threads, while interesting, weren't enough to hold the series up. Yeah, there was a lot of meddling, but I feel like it never became that great show people claim it is.

They had to dumb a lot of things down to please the network. I think that show would have fared better on an AMC, HBO, or Showtime. I think Joss wanted to explore darker and more sexual themes than Fox was comfortable with. Dollhouse just wasn't meant for network TV in my opinion. Even in season 2 when it felt like Joss was getting some more creative control, a lot of irreparable damage had already been done to the show by Fox. Joss always spoke well of them though. Guess there's no sense in burning bridges
