If we take this at face value, this is going to be an episode that's going to change the show and both answer old questions and forge many future stories.

...buuuuut....I'm afraid this might just be a marketing trick, like the disappointing series 7 finale (with the exception of THAT reveal of course) and it's just going to be another normal episode (well...a small reunion episode). Keeping my fingers crossed that it does turn out to be something special.



Also can some old Who fan answer me why that companion who's seen in the trailer (and who passed away a couple of years ago unfortunately), is so loved by the old Who fanbase, and she's somehow the only companion who has been so important to the show's history?

And now that I mentioned companions, why the fuck are they brining Rose back for the anniversary, I HATED that character . Amy and Rory should have been in this :'(

I did not watch the trailer, trying to keep it special, but my guess is the companion is Sarah Jane. Sarah was introduced as an powerful woman who was smart and cunning. She was an every girl, but she was also clever, which is a long running part of the show. She also traveled with the Fourth Doctor who is the one that most people who liked the old episodes knew the best (since he was the most shown one in the US). She was at several iconic moments in the history of the show, like the birth of the Daleks. Really she was just the right person in the right place at the right time.

Rose is the most loved out of the new companions. Mostly because it was most peoples first companion. I dont know, I think she is a bit daft and annoying, but ohwell. I dont mind her coming back, but I hated how they did the End of Time...stupid human timelord to appease the raging fans.

ok question for old doctor who fans: what's so special about the master? the episodes he was featured in were honestly quite shit imo. Even in his best ones (the end of time), the master was the weakest link.

Maybe it's the fault of the actor for not feeling threatening, but in general the master didn't seem like an equal to the doctor. He just seems like a madman who was given the keys to a tardis.

Was it different in the old who episodes? was he more threatening?

The first master was a scary man. I mean he even looked like he was evil:

I agree the new one was not a good pick, but the Delgado era master was a true villain. He is the personification of the Moriarty to the Doctor's Sherlock Holmes.

Yes I know she's the most loved one, and I really don't get why. She's a bad person and as you said a dull character. She's the most "damsell in distress" companion in the new show, and I can't even understand what the fuck she's saying half of the time, since the actress can't be bothered to fully open her mouth when she's talking.

You know, even though I kind of like the current companion (mostly cause of her explosive entrance to the show, cause they dumbed her down with later episodes), I kind of feel she doesn't belong in the 50th anniversary special. She doesn't seem to be special enough to the Doctor.

As for Rose, I don't see what makes her all that different from the current companion. Just another pretty face who likes getting into trouble and is seduced by the man with the big, blue box. So if you like the current companion, you should like Rose too

Donna was really the most unique of all the companions we've had since the reboot. She broke the mold. And Rory too, if you count him as a companion. He certainly had enough screen time to be considered one. I hated that story though where he watched over Amy in isolation for like a thousand years as the Centurion. There's no way in hell a human being could do that without completing losing their mind. That story made no sense

Now if you want to talk about characters I hate, there that's annoying River Song who has to make every other sentence out of her mouth some kind of sexual innuendo because she thinks she's hot when she's really not. I hate that she knows the doctor's name and all his secrets, as I don't consider her worthy enough of a character to have those privileges

For anyone who hasn't seen it (Likely some of you don't even know it exists) there is an official Doctor Who mini episode with Paul McGann that explains how he regenerated into the John Hurt 8.5 Doctor. You can find it here:




So, did the special meet everyone's expectations and hopes? It certainly did for me.

I was honestly a little surprised that the Daleks weren't a main threat, and instead it was all about the Zygons and the Doctor's internal struggle with whether or not to use The Moment. I think that the whole Bad Wolf weird timey wimey explanation for Billie Piper appearing was far better than the possibility of the actual Rose making an appearance (I never liked Rose much). The sudden part with Tom Baker was outright amazing, as was the whole ending really. And I think David, Matt, and John all really worked well together with none of them stealing the spot light for too long.

All in all I have to say season 7 was a bit of a letdown. I love Matt Smith's version of the Doctor, but most of the season 7 episodes fell flat in my opinion and relied too heavily on the Doctor's quirkiness in order to get by on entertainment value instead of having a compelling plot. This special though, I honestly believe, completely made up for that. I cannot wait for season 8 to start and to see what Peter Capaldi can do in the Doctor's shoes.

The special is what it had to be. What upsets me about it is how smug Moffatt is, it is clear that he wanted a different kind of 9th doctor, and did so. I did like the nods to classic Who though - the most obvious would be to the Tom Baker Doctor, but the more subtle ones like the school being the same one from the Pilot are what I like.

This to me, makes up for any problems I had with the actual episode. This was a labor of love with the tongue firmly planted in check for Doctor Who fans. If you look at the cast list you will notice alot of familiar names.

I thought it was amazing, best thing Moffat's written for this show in a long time. Seeing Tennant again was bittersweet, as he's my favorite of the modern era Doctors. I liked them referencing his final line before he regenerated once again. Tenant's the Doctor who rallies against his own fate and I like that.

The queen Elizabeth stuff was a bit silly though, but that's just me. I tend to like the show more when it's dark and serious. The dialogs between the old Doctor and fake Rose discussing the grave consqueneces of his potential choice were among my favorite scenes

Actually SEEING the war with the Daleks was AMAZING? That was up there with the epic space battles of Star Wars and the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica.

Any of you lucky enough to see it in theatres in 3D? Bet those paintings looked awesome
