1. Kairo (The original japanese version, not the Hollywood remake). Although I'm not sure if it will fit, as people tend to either view it as scary or just plain depressing.
2. Noroi. There are people who dismiss it as a typical Blairwitch-type mockumentary, but it's actually way, way better. For one thing, it doesn't rely on jumpscares. It's more of the creeping horror kind. Also unlike the common dreg of Blairwitch wannabes, you actually get to see the ghost/demon/monster/whatever it was.
Both films can be easily found subbed.

Re: recommend some super spooky movies
Why don't you play a horror game instead? Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Penumbra, System Shock 2, Silent Hill 1-4, I have no mouth and I must Scream, Sanitarium, Resident Evil remake on Gamecube, Eternal Darkness, Fatal Frame, Clock Tower, Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth and Condemned. After you're done with those, you can play some athmospheric FPS games like S.T.A.L.K.E.R, Thief, FEAR, Alien vs Predator and horror mods for Half Life 1&2.
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

I remember playing Silent Hill 1 on the PS1 and having to turn on the light, lol. It was actually pretty damn spooky.
OT: I dont know if this movie qualifies as 'horror', but it's most definitely 'horrifying'. A Serbian Film. I heard about it here on this board and watched it.
That movie is seriously, seriously fucked up.

I've not seen the film, but I've read a good deal about it.
Here's an actual email I sent to some friends recently after making the too-many-drinks faux pas of discussing the infamous scene in this movie with too much exuberance while out with said female friends over dinner:
Here's the Wikipedia overview of the horrible film I was talking about last night (which I've not seen). I think I explained my interest in it poorly...though it is a tough topic to broach in conversation given the film's most well known scene!
I am compelled by films that push the boundaries of censorship/taste so as to repulse and create severe unease: it is a fascinating characteristic of the medium and a useful way to learn something about the limits of free speech/public morality/etc. Horror, as a genre, is most able to push those buttons and tap into cultural fears in a way that makes both watching them and following the controversy around them to be a very intense and illuminating process. I think this film, based on what I've read, is representative of a new wave of film to "up the ante" so to speak after the torture-based horror films (Hostel, Wolf Creek, Human Centipede, etc.) of the previous decade. In an era with traditional horror becoming ubiquitous (e.g. zombie and vampire culture) and with the news media creating boogeymen as a matter of ratings-grabbing, true horror that unsettles is derived from darker places. This is likely why we've seen recent remakes of "I Spit on Your Grave" and (this summer) "Maniac" as well, I would think. This review explains some of this well, I believe: http://thephoenix.com/boston/movies/121 ... bian-film/
Anyway, I didn't want you to think I was into weird snuff films or somethingIt's a real (and real sick) film that continues a tradition of the genre in a way that intrigues me, and the unease [*friend's name*] talked about feeling in watching Django Unchained [*the dog scene*] is the kind of thing that, to me, makes a film memorable.

Begotten. I don't really like movies that scare or disturb me (I typically stick with slasher and campy drive-in flicks), so this movie left quite an impression on me.
Also, check out the films of Jose Mojica Marins, the man behind Coffin Joe. Really neat stuff.

Re: recommend some super spooky movies
Lots of good suggestions so far, but if I may add...
Shinya Tsukamoto's stuff. Although not strictly horror (there are horror elements), based on your post I can't help but think you'd dig him. Check out anything you can find by him, you won't regret it (well, imo he hasn't been that impressive in the 00s, so maybe just look at his 70s-90s stuff). Start with Tetsuo The Iron Man probably. He's up there with my favorite Japanese live action film makers for Tetsuo and Tokyo Fist alone.
I would also very much second the Jodorowsky suggestion, especially if you enjoy Lynch. I'd also add Federico Fellini, Luis Buñuel, and Ingmar Bergman to the list. (Bergman has a ton of stuff, not all of which is surreal/horror, so for specifics I would suggest The Seventh Seal, Through a Glass Darkly, Hour of the Wolf, Persona, and go from there if you like any of those.)
I think Stanley Kubrick should be mentioned even though I feel like it's super obvious/mainstream, but his movies are some of the most disturbing and memorable ever to me. If by chance you haven't watched any of his stuff, absolutely check that out. No one does it as good as this guy.
And fuck "A Serbian Film", it's horseshit. Imagine an ultra-ridiculous Asian shock film that tries to be super serious and act like a social commentary, and that's what you're dealing with there. The stuff that it does to "push the envelope" never feels legitimately shocking or genuine, and just feels incredibly forced and stupid (which is okay, as long as the movie is aware of this, but this movie was not). I don't see how anyone could walk away from a movie with scenes this stupid and feel disturbed. The guy goes around killing people with his dick ffs.

While that's true, it's not what was disturbing in the film.

Yup, I think this would likely be my reaction to seeing it. I think i am more fascinated by the idea of what the film purports to do than what it likely actually does.
