Re: Are people still collecting DVD's?
Like the others have said, there are still DVD collectors, but mostly for niche stuff and stuff not converted. However, sometimes the bluray conversion is botched and the DVD is better. Personally, bluray is only for when we project big. So, not counting the Bond Collection, I have a total of 15, and several hundred dvds.
Re: Are people still collecting DVD's?
I have an older projecter that's not hidef, so I actually need dvds for that. That's where the combo packs come in handy for those few titles I buy on bluray.
I'm not a glitch, I just have pixlexia.

I'll still purchase DVD's, but I don't consider myself a collector. I have a few hundred, so maybe I'm kidding myself.
I know that some of my favorite movies will probably not be released on Blu-Ray (or expensive limited runs, see Fright Night) so I nab the DVD if I see it. I don't think Gung-Ho* or Mr.Mom may ever see Blu-ray.
*Holy schnikes! Gung-Ho isn't cheap on ebay.

Re: Are people still collecting DVD's?
I don't feel I'm a collector, but I do buy them. I haven't purchased a lot in the last few months, now that I think about it. But I do purchase DVDs. Here's my breakdown:
If the movie isn't some visually intensive blockbuster, I'll buy on DVD, unless the BluRay is exceptionally cheap.
Examples:
Drowning Mona - DVD
Seven Psychopaths - DVD
In Bruges - Normally DVD, but I think I found it on Bluray for like $5 or $10 somewhere, so I got it on Blu.
Avengers: Blu
Dark Knight: Blu
I have a movie collection of about somewhere around 400 or 500 movies now. But they are movies that I will watch again later. I also have a nice little database app on my phone called My Movies Pro (android) but there is a nice one for iOS called iCollectMovies. They let you scan them in via barcode and it scrapes the info off the net. You can check them out to friends too. "Devyn borrowed The Wings of Honneamise on January 14th" (granted I'd never lend out my special edition HDDVD version of RSF: Wings of Honneamise to DEVYN, but you get the idea)

This is why we have HDMI to VGA adapters. My three projectors look stellar playing blurays through one. Granted I keep that VGA cable as short as possible between the two.Retrodude wrote:I have an older projecter that's not hidef, so I actually need dvds for that. Re: Are people still collecting DVD's?
So i've been offered $85 for all the DVDs I list in the original post. That's roughly 60 cents a DVD. Is that a fair deal?
I really don't follow DVD sales but looking at a few titles on ebay they don't seem to be worth much. I realize I could get more for them by selling them individually, but I doubt it'd be anything worth the hassle.
I didn't research the prices of all my collection, but the godzilla boxset seems to be worth the most of what I saw, and even that was only $20-40.
Anyways, should I pass on that offer?

I'd break out anythung that would sell for $10 shipped or more and put those on ebay. I'd pribably ask for $2-$5 or so a piece for the rest depending. Use the "completed auctions" option on eBay for help.

I"m guessing Pawn Shops would offer $0.50 per dvd, but that's a guess.winds wrote:So i've been offered $85 for all the DVDs I list in the original post. That's roughly 60 cents a DVD. Is that a fair deal?
