I got the the second to last galaxy a few nights ago, only to be outdone by a rebel ship. :(

On the plus side I got 1 challenge and 1 ship layout unlocked - the Engi ship with only one person piloting, the rest are system repair/med bots. That is a very difficult layout to play as. All of your weapons are more powerful, but they take more time to load, and don't seem to be as effective as the smaller, under powered weapons.

I have to say (again) this game is $10 well spent.

Edit: This game is bullshit. I still have yet to beat it on easy.

I just got this game a few days ago and literally all of my free time has been poured into it. Holy addiction, Batman.

There's just something magical about it. Maybe it's because of the way the way it's mostly left to the imagination or maybe it's the excitement about how your next jump could be really awesome or spell total oblivion. Whatever it is it just doesn't seem to get old.

This game was definitely a big surprise. I might kill that boss... someday.
Fuck boarding drones.

Pausing is a fundamental feature. It'd be like not stopping to think between moves in Nethack.

The day is saved!

Now to beat it on normal difficultly.

Even this feels like quite an accomplishment though.

And yes, the soundtrack is phenomenal. My girlfriend got hooked mostly because of the music. She managed to beat it with the Zoltan ship so far and has more of the ships unlocked on her game than I do.

I had to bump this up. The game is part of the humble bundle (BTA) right now and I just started playing last night and it's brilliant.

I've read through this topic for some tips. I'm already starting to figure out the strategy myself (the beauty of this game) and have made it farther with each of my sessions.

Awesomness.

Awesome game, it's so hard. I just reached sector 6, on normal.

Finally starting to understand the races and which upgrades to do first. The first thing I'd recommend doing is upgrading the shield system. The first 3 sectors become piece of cake this way...

I will say it again, to me I do not care if I beat the game, I just have alot of fun getting the stories from it when I play. Every time I play I come away with a narrative that I really enjoy - even if my wife gets tired of hearing about them...
