Thanks mugenmidget. You def know where its at.
But I lot of times they just appear to be rips of ISO's with nothing changed. So in those cases, what exactly is the point?
Wrong. It's to my understanding that their ISO's go thru a process that can allow them to release and provide an ISO of higher quality than what's already out there for the community. Steps like ripping straight from their source GD collection, proper file management on the disc, Absolutely no downsampling (which many previous rips are known for) are just some of the finer points in what ReviveDC brings to the table.
The point is providing an improved, higher quality catalog of ISO's for the DC community to experience and enjoy!
Donald Duck Going Quackers or any other standard US game is a release I'm like "uh... why?
mugen laid it down straight from the source. An NTSC-U ISO was never available before unitl RDC got on it. Only a PAL ISO was out there. The group has released some really amazing ISOs that up until now, had never had an ISO rip before! JoJo's BA FMS comes to mind and a few others. You may not care much for DDGQ or see no point in it, but others may warrant the opportunity to play and perhaps enjoy this partucular game!

Hey guys, I wanted to jump in about the ReviveDC stuff real fast.

First off, the whole "DCRes already did it" stuff. When we started, I had that concern. However, once we started ripping, we did some games that DCRes had inexplicably downsampled and they mysteriously fit a 700mb disc perfectly. In particular, Dino Crisis and Silver. We got curious and investigated, and found out he had merely taken the scene files from the games and self booted them. The scene versions were for 650mb CD-R. He had done this with other games too, Lodoss War is a very notable one because the game has a very impressive protection on it. His NFO shrugged it off and said that he sourced from PAL GDI and there wasn't one. Well, he just took the files from PARADOX' release. So the DCRes thing... Yeah, don't trust those.

We always source from GDIs so we get no corrupted files. Some scene games just didn't work after certain points due to mistakes of the group. We always hack the games ourselves; we don't simply repackage scene files. Finally, we use the data/data 45000 method for the games. This imitates the boot LBA of a GD-ROM which means we have to hack files less. It also gives us a tiny bit more space to use for game data. This method is more reliable for some games too, as there are Dreamcasts that just don't cooperate with traditional audio/data self boot discs.

Hopefully that can clear up any confusion as to why we do what we do. The scene rips are unreliable, and DCRes' claims of being high quality rips are dubious at best. His later releases were mostly his own work, and some deserve commendation, like his NTSC-U Rayman 2, but why roll the dice with what could be reused scene files?
